Description
4 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHANN CONRAD BAER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BEER-FAUCETS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent N0. 54,091, dated April 24, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHANN C. BAER, of Cincinnati, Ohio, have invented a new and use.- ful Improvement in Beer-Faucets, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
This is an improvement in the class of beerfaucets which are designed to render the liquor when in a fiat condition more palatable byV creating a foam or effervescence inthe act of discharge.
Figure l is a perspective view of a faucet embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is an axial section thereof.
Ais the bodyor main chamber of the faucet. The bodyAis intersected bya customary plugchamber, B, which contains a plug, C, of usual form, and having a suitable handle, c. Traversing the faucetimmediatelyin front of the plugchamber and in a vertical, or nearly vertical, direction is a cylindrical chamber, D, within which is fitted a plunger, E, whoserod e passes out through a stuffing-box, F, and terminates in a handle, c.
The stem c is connected by rods G G with a Wrist, H, on the plug C. The chamber D is closed at bottom by a screw-threaded cap, D", perforated by minute apertures d.
Operation: The act of turning the plug C to the open position is accompanied by an elevation of the plunger E entirely abovev the passage-Way, and by the filling with liquor of' all that part of the chamber D below the piston. The act of closing the plug operates through the rods Gr to depress the piston and t0 cause the liquor contained in the chamber D to squirt with considerable force from the apertures d, giving a head and sprightly taste to the liquor,
similar to that which is sometimes sought to be given by elevating a bottle or other vessel from which liquor is being poured.
Among several decided advantages of' my faucet over all previous devices so far as known, the following may be cited: All the passages, being fully accessible forthe purpose of inspection and cleaning, may consequently be easily kept free from the objectionable mustiness of faucets of this description. The faucet is closed by a plug of ordinary description, which is easily made and kept tight. By simply removing the screw-threaded and perforated cap D the faucet is capable of being used in the ordinary Way whenever the condition of the liquor is such as to make a special frothing appliance unnecessary or objectionable.
It will be seen that the' discharge of the liquor is direct, and the pump-chamber is filled the moment the valve or plug is opened.
It is also apparent that a faucet of this form is capable of being cast in one piece, and that all its passa-ges are readily accessible for cleaning or otherwise.
1 It will also be perceived that the tightness of the faucet depends upon theplug, which, being of the common form, is easily constructed and kept in repair. I claim herein as new and of my invention- The arrangement of body A, plug-chamber B, plug C, frothing-chamber D,plunger E ccf, and rods Gr Cr', substantially as and for thev purposes set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
JOHANN CONRAD BAER. Witnesses:
GEO. H. KNIGHT, J AMEs H. LAYMAN.
