SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 540,011, dated May 28, 1895. Application filed January 14', 1895- Serial No. 534,808. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, PETER WIEDERER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stapleton, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Mirrors, Albums, &c., of which the following is a specification.

This invention has reference to certain improvements in folding mirrors, albums, and similar articles, by arranging suitable pictures in the same, so that the appearance of the folding a mirror, album, 850., is considerably enhanced; and the invention consists of a certain novel combination of parts, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally point ed out in the claim.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the front panel or panels of a folding-mirror, pic- At the center of the front panel A, a recess a is formed in the body of the material of the same and inclosed by a suitable metallic lining, such recess being of oval, round or other suitable shape. The recess a is filled by a suitable ornamental frame B, which corresponds in shape with the same, and which holds a glass-plate b, a picture b back of the glass-plate, and a backing b for retaining the picture on the glass-plate.

The frame B has an ornamental surrounding rim B which overlaps that portion of the surface of the panel A which is adjacent to the recess a, so that the joint formed at the recess is bid from view whereby an ornamental finish is imparted.

The picture-frame is sprung into the metallic lining a. of the recess, or connected in any other suitable well-known manner thereto, so that .it can be readily removed and a picture placed therein, the frame being then replaced with the picture into the front panel of the article. By this arrangement, the front panels of folding duplicate or triplicate mirrors, albums, 850., can be considerably improved, as the picture of the donor or any other attractive picture or portrait can be placed in the same, and thereby the dull front of these articles considerably improved and a more attractive appearance given to the same.

Having thus described my invention, I claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the panel of a folding-mirror, album or other article, provided with a front central recess or depression of suitable shape, and a metallic lining in said recess, of a picture-frame having a surrounding and outwardly-projecting ornamental rim, a glass-plate, a picture, and means for retain ing the picture against the plate, said pictureframe being sprung into the metallic lining of the recess whereby it is retained therein with its ornamental rim lapping over the outer surface of the panel which surrounds the recess, substantially as set forth.
