WITNESSES: INVENTOR:
THE NORRIS PETERS C0, PnoTu-umo wnsnlmrrou. n. c.
UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK V. EAVENSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CANDLESTIC K.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 539,252, dated May 14, 1895.
Application filed February 23, 1894. Serial No. 501,171. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
"Be it known that I, FRANK V. EAVENSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Candlesticks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in candlesticks and more particularly to that class of candlesticks which are furnished with a chimney which surrounds the candle, and the object of my invention is to furnish an efficient, inexpensive, and convenient device for holding the candle and chimney.
My candle and chimney holding device is constructed from a single piece of sheet metal which is first cut to the proper shape, its central part being so cut that parts of it may be bent up to form supports between which the candle may be placed, audits outer part being suitably cut or formed sothat it may be bent up to form a support or supports for holding the chimney in place.
The candle and chimney holder is adapted to be secured to a dish or base by riveting, soldering or in any other suitable manner.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a central sectional elevation through a candlestick and chimney embodying my improvements, the candle being shown in side elevation; Fig. 2, a similar View through a modification of my invention; Fig. 3, a plan of the combined candle and chimney holder, Fig. 1, the dotted lines showing the form of blank from which the device is constructed; Fig. 4, a perspective view of the form of candle and chimney holder shown in Fig. 2, together with the base to which it is secured; and Fig. 5, a plan, and Fig. 6 a side elevation, of the modification of the device in which the chimneyholder is formed in two parts.
A is a dish or base; B, my improved support for the candle and chimney; O, a candle,
. and D a chimney which surrounds the candle.
The candle and chimney holder B is constructed from a single piece of metal which is so cut that parts of it may be bent up to form supports for the candle and other parts bent up to form supports for the chimney. In the drawings I have shown the candle supports a as triangular in shape. These supports are formed by making angular cuts in the sheet metal blank B, the metal between each set of cuts being turned up as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 4, and 6, to form supports between which the candle may be placed. Any number of supports may be formed and used and they may have any suitable shape. The support or supports 1) for the chimney may be formed in any suitable manner. In Figs. 1 and 3 they are shown as a number of points or arms which are bent up and between which the chimney is placed and held. In Fig. 3 the form of these arms before being bent up is shown in dotted lines. The number of arms maybe varied at pleasure.
In Figs. 2 and 4 the chimney support I) is formed by bending up and inward the peripl1- cry of the blank out of which the combined chimney and candle support is formed. This form of chimney support is adapted for chimneys that are formed with a lip or bead c on their bottoms, Fig. 2, and the chimney is clamped in place by a screw 01 which passes through the support 5.
In Figs. 5 and 6 the chimney support is formed by bending up at opposite sides two broad pieces of the periphery of the blank sheet of metal.
The candle and chimney holder may be secured to the base A by riveting, soldering, or in any other suitable manner.
- Having thus described my invention, I claim- A candle stick consisting of a base which is stamped up from a single piece of metal, combined with a candleand chimney holder, formed of a separate piece of metal that is secured to the base; the candle and chimney holder having the struck up points a, to hold the candle, and the turned up edge pieces I), to
hold the chimney, substantially as shown and described.
