GENTRIFUGAL BLOWER. No. 537,582. Patented-Apr. 16, 1895.
WITNESSES INVENTOR BY WW5,
ATTORNEYS UNTTED STATES PATENT tries,
GARRETT WALLACE POOLE, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGN'CR To THE NEW JERSEY BLOWER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
CENTRIFUGAL BLOWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 537,582, dated April 16, 1895.
Application filed May 15, 1894. Serial No. 611,290. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GARRETT WALLACE POOLE, a citizen of the United States, residing in Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal Blowers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the to art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My present invention relates to a new and useful improvement in combined suction and centrifugal blowers and especially on the blower shown and described in my Patent No. 513,057, dated January 16, 1894.
The invention consists in the new and improved drum, its curved channels or passages and in the combination and arrangement of the various parts, substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
With reference to the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a blower embodying my improvements, certain portions being broken away. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the drum; and Fig. 3 an enlarged perspeotive de- 3c tail view of one of the partition plates forming the channels in the drum.
In said drawings a represents the shell or casing, consisting of two halves secured together by bolts or rivets b in the usual manner. The shell or casing a is provided with an outlet b, and on each side with a centrally located inlet opening 0*. A shaft d traverses said casing and is adapted to revolve in bearings e secured in any desired manner to the 40 outside of the casing a. Secured to said shaft is a spiderf carrying and supporting the revolving drum A. The latter consists of the two side plates g and h, each provided with a central opening registering with the central openings in the casing, and of a series of curved partition plates?) secured to the side plates by means of rivets k (or in any desired manner) and adapted to form in connection with said side plates 9 and h a series of uniform channels or passages n, projecting from the central openings of the'side plates to and beyond the periphery thereof. Each of said partition plates is curved in a longitudinal direction, that is to say, in a direction substantially radial to the center of the drum and is also curved in cross section as clearly shown in the drawings. The passages n discharge into the shell or casing a through the outlet openings m which by preference are arranged substantially normal to the periphery of the preceding channel. To the outside of the side plates are secured metallic rings 0 projecting through the inlet openings 4" of the casing 01. and bearing against the flange or ring 19, thus forming a substantially air tight joint between said side plates and the shell.
The operation is similar to the operation performed with the blower referred to in the statement of invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a blower, a drum consisting of two side plates and of a series of partition plates curved in cross section, substantially as described.
2. In a blower a drum consisting of two side plates and of a series of partition plates curved longitudinally and in Cross section, substantially as described.
3. In a blower, a drum consisting of two Side plates and of a series of partition plates curved longitudinally and in cross section, and dividing said drum into a series of uni form shaped chambers or channels, the outlet openings of said channels projecting beyond the periphery of said side plates, substantially as described.
4.. The combination in a blower, of a stago tionary casing provided with approximately central openings, with a drum adapted to be revolved in said casing and consisting of side plates provided with central openings, registering with the central openings of the casing, and a series of uniform shaped channels formed between said side plates by partition plates, Curved longitudinally and in cross section, all said parts, substantially as described.
5. The combination in a blower, of a sta- 10o tionary casing provided with approximately central openings, with a drum adapted to be revolved in said casing and consisting of side plates provided with central openings, registering with the central openings of the easing, and a series of uniform shaped channels or chambers formed between said side plates by partition plates, curved in cross section, all said parts, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of May, 1894.
GARRETT WALLACE POOLE.
