INDEPENDENT GAS-BURNER REGULATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 537,294, dated April 9,1895.
Application filed August 3, 1894.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH KRAKER,a.citi Zen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Independent Gas-Burner Regulators; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
' My invention relates to a device for reguro lating the How and pressure of gas.
It consists in a device attachable to each burner i'ndependentlyand in certain details of construction which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a vertical section. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the Valve seat.
The object of my invention is to provide a device for regulating the flow of gas through zo each burner independently, so that whatever the vsize of the burner, a certainconsumption of gas within thecapacity of the burner may be assured. y
A is a casing of sufficient size to contain the valve B and the valve seat O. This cas-- ing has its lower end so constructed as to be properly secured to the upper end of the supply pipe D through which the gas arrives at the burner.
From the top of the case is a tubular extension E having its exterior and interior screw-threaded. Upon the exterior of this extension thegas burner tube F is screwed so that there is a tight joint between-the supply pipe D and the burner tip, the gas being all delivered into the interior of the casing A. The valve seat C is shown in the form of a hollow cone having a screw-threaded hollow extension O which is adapted to screw into 4o the inner threads of the extension E at the top of the case A, so that the valve seat will be situated a short distance above the open en d of the pipe D, and the openings through which-the gas flows into the case A.
The valve B is a light conical shell of similar shape to the valve seat C and adapted to fit within it when closed. This valve has a stem G which extends up within the hollow extension O of the valve seat, and also down 5o through a hole made in the part into which Serial No. 519,360. (No model.)

The interior of the valve seatO has grooves H made'in it extending from the bottom up 55 to a point where they connect with the interior passage, for thel purpose of allowing a small flow of gas when the valve has been closed.
The valve Bis so arranged with relation to the seat and the inlet openings, that under 6o a certain pressure of gas, the valve will re main open sufficiently .to allow the desired amount ot` gas to flow through the extension O ofthe valve seat and thence to the burner. It the pressure be increased, lthe valve will be closed against the seat O, but the grooves or channels H are designed to still allow the proper proportion of gas to flow to the burner, under the increased pressure, so that whether the valve be opened or closed, the light fur- 7o nished from the burner will be an even and steady one, and whatever increase of pressure may take place within the supply pipe, no greater amount of gas will be allowed to flow to the burner.
The upper end ot the extension C is so formed that a screw driver or other device may be applied to it, and it may thus be raised or lowered in the extension E into which it is moving the burner and adjusting the valve f seat as previously described.
Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An independent gas burner regulator, consisting of a closed casing having its lower end secured to the gas 'supply pipe, and a burner secured to the upper end, avalve seat of conil cal form within said casing, having a hollow too extension adj ustably fitted to `the top of the casing, and a valve of conical form having a guiding stem adapted to enter said extension, said valve seat having grooves formed in its face extending from the lower-edge to the apex and communicating with the hollow extension.
2. In a gas burner regulator, the combination, with the gas supply pipe, the burner and the chamber between said pipe and burner, of a conical valve seat and conical Valve adapted to close against the same, said valve seal; having grooves or passages in its inclined Walls connecting at one end with the chamber and at the upperl end with a hollow Aextension from the valve seat, and said Valve having a stem adapted to en ter said extension and guide the valve.
