JACKET FOR MON EY-SAFES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,129, dated March 5, 1895.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, FRANCOIS BERNARDIN and ELI O. MUNSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Antwerp, in the county of Paulding and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jackets for Money-Safes; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in jackets for money safes, and the object of the invention is to provide a safety jacket which is adapted to cover down over a money chest, surrounding the same on all but one side, and that the bottom of the safe, the said jacket designed to lock itself to the money safe in its descent.

A further object of the invention is the provision of an attachment to the outer jacket which is adapted to automatically set off a time look within the safe, whereby a bolt is actuated which looks the jacket to the safe and will not allow the jacket to be removed until the hour set by the lock causes mechanism to withdraw the bolt and allow the jacket to be hoisted from over the safe by a suitable Windlass provided especially for the purpose.

To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists further in the novel construction, combination and adaptation of the parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

We clearly illustrate our invention in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon form a part of this specification and in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of our Windlass with the jacketin vertical section. Fig. 2, is a section on the line 2-2, of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the automatically locking mechanism.

Reference now being bad to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the jacket, which is made preferably of iron or steel and has its lower edges scalloped as seen at a.

B is a safe, which is to be protected by the said jacket, and is provided with a timelock of any desired construction which is adapted to be set by means of a drop lever.

O is a rod having a perforated lower end 0, and is secured at its upper end to the top of the inside of the jacket. The said rod when the jacket is lowered over the safe, is designed to enter the aperture 01 in the safe, and come in contact with an L-shaped lever D, pivoted at e, which has one end slotted and carries therein a lug E secured to a bolt F, which when the free end of the L-shaped lever is caused to tilt, throws the said bolt through the perforation in the rod 0, thus securely locking the jacket over the safe. At the same time the lock mechanism is caused to turn the wheel G which carries a lug g, which,

when the wheel makes a partial revolution,

causes the bolt to be released, by the said lug coming in contact with the hooked end of the 7 said bolt.

It is not deemed necessary to illustrate any particular construction of time lock, as it is our intention to use any suitable make, which will cause a bolt to be thrown into a locking 8o relation, by a gravity movement of the rod 0, and which same movement will cause the lug carrying wheel to revolve by any spring actuated mechanism.

H is a frame carrying a pulley Iand a pulley J, over which a rope L, which is secured to an eye Z, is designed to pass, its other end being secured to the drum K about which the rope winds, a suitable dog R being provided which engages with ratchet teeth 1" about one 0 end of the said drum, whereby the jacket may be held suspended above the safe.
