G. T. WILSON.
DOOR CHECK.
No. 538,694. Patented Feb. 5, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT recs,
GEORGE T. \VILSON, OF MOLINE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO AUGUSTUS LIOHTWADT AND CHARLES W. WRIGHT, OF SAME PLACE.
DOOR-CHECK.
srnorrxcarron forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,694, dated February 5, i895.
- Application filed October 12, 1894. Serial No. 525,705, (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: I Be it known that I, Gnoaen T. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at liloline, in the county of Rock Island and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Checks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in door checks or blind fasteners consisting of an angular or L- shaped member designed to be pivoted at its angle to the ears of a bed plate on either side of a recess in which is seated a fiat spring held normally in the same plane as the upper surface of the bed plate, and normally holding one of the arms of the angular securer at right angles to the bed plate, and when a slight pressure, as the opening of a door against the vertical arm of the check, is brought to bear thereagainst, the angular securer will turn on its pivot presenting the other arm to a vertical position in the path of the door, but on an opposite side. The door will be thus held open until a slight pressure is brought to bear in the opposite direction, when the angular check will again turn on its pivot, and allow the door to freely close.
To these ends and to such others as the in vention may pertain, the same consists further in the novel construction, combination and adaptation of the parts as will hereinafter be more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon form apart of this specification, and in which drawings portion of a door held open by my improved door check. Fig. 2, is a central longitudinal sectional view through the securer and door, and Fig, 3 is an enlarged view of the securer after the door has been closed.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a door; B, a bed plate, which may be secured to the floor, or it may be fastened to the side wall of a room or the outside of a house when it is desired to use the check for holding blinds. The said plate is longitudinally recessed in which recess is seated the flat spring D, so that its upper surface will be in the same plane as the upper surface of the bed plate;
Pivoted to the ears E along the opposite edges of the longitudinal recess, is the substantially right angled or L-shaped member, E and the said spring is adapted to normally hold one of the arms of the said member in a vertical position, and when a slight pressure, as the swinging of the door against the vertical arm, is brought against it, the angular member turns on its pivot against the stress of the spring, and the other end is brought to a vertical position, thus offering a stop to hold the door open.
It will be readily seen that my securer may be equally well used fastened to a floor or to a vertical wall, as long as the check is placed in the path of the door or blind as the case may be. p
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a door stop or check, the combination of the plate B recessed as described and provided with the flat spring D seated therein, 0f the angular check E pivoted'in ears on the said plate onearmof the said check normally held in the path of a swinging door, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE T. VvILSON.

CHARLES W. WRIGHT, AUGUST. LICHTVVADT.
