To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRED J. PERRY, of Lowell, county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Receivers or Chutes for Pneumatic Dispatch-Tube Systems; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in receivers or chutes,
for pneumatic dispatch tube systems, and the object of my invention is to produce a receiver or chute so constructed that the carriers passing from the system to the cashier may be received on the table in front of the cashier in the order discharged from the system and the change made and returned to the respective salesmen in the order in which they are received, so that the carriers first received by the cashier are first returned, and so on with the other carriers in the order of their reception by the cashier.
My invention consists of certain novel features, arrangements and combinations hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings accompanying thisspecification: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cashiers table showing in dotted lines parts of the pneumatic system and in full lines the table and receiver or chute for the carriers. Fig. 2 is a central cross-section through the receiver or chute. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of said receiver or chute.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts throughout the several views.
To the table A there is secured a receiver or chute B having a base 0 and an upper part D which is open at the top E, and located directly under and in line with the discharge from the terminal at the cashiers station, so that the carriers pass into the top of the re ceiver from the system.
The top part of the receiver or chute decreases in diameter downwardly to the bend F, where the direction of the carrier is changed from vertical to horizontal and thus checks the momentum of the carrier, and at this point there is a projecting arm E which serves to prevent the carrier passing to the base 0 until the carrier is entirely in the bed G, from which it passes to the base 0 and table A.
As the carrier passes down into the top D of the chute it passes around the bend F and is prevented from rolling on to the base 0 by the projecting arm F until it is entirely within the bed G, and when in this substantially horizontal position it rolls underneath the arm F without contacting with it. By this means the carrier cannot start to roll on the base 0 until it is entirely located in the bed G, and the two ends of the carrier start nearly at the same time down the base 0, but with one head slightly in advance of the other, and in order to cause both heads of the carrier to be in the same line as they pass 01f the base I have provided the said base 0 on one side 0 with a greater angle than on the opposite side, and for this purpose: The head H of a carrier H starts ahead of the head H of the same carrier from the bed G, and the provision of the angle gives an increased i1npetus to the head H so that when the carrier reaches the lower line of the base and is about to pass to the table, the two heads. are on the same line and the carriers pass in regular order, one behind the other, in the order in which they are discharged from the terminal, whereas if there were no such provision the carriers might some roll to the rightand someto the left, and there would be no means of determining in what order the car-'- riers were received. w
J represents a terminal at the cashiers station from which the carriers are discharged from the receiver or chute B, and K represents a return tube by which the carriers are sent from the cashiers station to the salesmen.
From the above description it will be seen that the main object of my invention is to produce a device by which not only the momentum of the carrier is reduced in passing through the top of the receiver or chute to the bottom, but also to provide means by which the order of reception of carriers is determined.
I do not limit myself to the exact arrangement and construction shown, as the same may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus ascertained the nature and set forth the construction of myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a pneumatic dispatch tube system, a receiver into the upper part of which the carriers are received, and having a lower horizontalportion with an opening from which the carriers are discharged, and an inclined base adapted to receive the carriers sidewise from the said receiver.
2. In a pneumatic dispatch tube system, a receiver into the upper part of which the carriers are received, and provided with an inclined base for the discharge of carriers, said base being inclined at different angles at its opposite ends.
3.- In a pneumatic dispatch tube system, a receiver into the vertical part of which the carriers are received, and provided with a horizontally arranged inclined base for the discharge of the carriers, said base beinginclined at different angles at its opposite ends, and means for preventing the discharge of the carrier from the receiver until it has assumed a substantially horizontal position.
