No. 531,054.- Patented Dec. 1 8, 1894.
I ll m lllummmjji] N N lllllimlll" UNITED STATES v PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIA A. MCCOY, OF BEMAN, KANSAS.
DEYIQE FOR ADJUSTABLY ATTACHING WEED-CUTTERS T0 CULTIVAT O R-STANDA RDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 531,054, dated December 18, 1894.
Application filed March 3,1894. Serial No. 60 0- on mod l.
man, in the county of Morris and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Connectors Between Weed-Gutter Shanks and Cultivator-Standards; andI do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention relates to certain improvements upon the means, shown by me in my United States Patent No. 503,932, for connecting the shank of a weed cutter with a cultivator standard.
The special object of my invention is to make a connector which can be readily applied to cultivators with iron or wooden beams; also to allow a curved movement to the diamond point of the Weed cutter so that it may be set at any desired slant to suit the varying crooks or, bends in the standards of different cultivators. c
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my connector, showing its application. Fig. 2 is a view of the connector all in vertical section except the standard which is in perspective; Fig. 3, a detail view of thecasting which comes between the shank-casting and the cultivator standard; Fig. 4, a detail view of the casting which goes behind the cultivator standard and Fig. 5 a cross sectionon line a: a: of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, A represents the casting on which the weed cutter is bolted through the hole a and opening 01.. Between the concaved point a and the heel or flange a is a with slots 0, in the upper side.
concaved body a in which rest the washer b and nut b on the threaded end of a screwbolt B. The shank of this bolt passes through a hole a in the middle of the casting A and a slot 0 in the longitudinal middle of the A casting C while its head rests in a groove 0 that surrounds the slot on the side'next to the standard D which I prefer to be round.
The casting C has a cavity a in which the body a of casting A is firmly retained by the bolt and nut with washer b. On the opposite side to-the concavity c are formed two endgrips c c of V-shape and serrated on the opposite inner edges, and two side-pockets c c E E are two bolts whose heads are placed in these pockets while the shanks pass through'the slots 0 c and also through the slots f f of the back casting F.
By this construction, the diamond point may-be adjusted to any desired slant, the cutter may be thrown forward far enough to allow the use of a flat wrench on top, and any necto r.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of myinvention, what I claim as new is The casting A having holes a ct, concave point a heel or flange a concave body a and hole a the screwbolt B with washer'b and not b,- the casting 0 having the slots 0 c groove 0 concavity c and grips 0 0 the 7 bolts E E and casting F with the slots ff, all
combined and arranged as shown, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two-witnesses.
WILLIAM A. MCCOY.
