SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,921, dated December 18, 1894.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, RICHARD A.BREUL and CHARLES BREUL, citizens of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chain-Links; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the, invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

(5 Our invention consists in a new and improved wire chain link, which is largely designed as an improvement on the wire link for which Patent No. 518,484 was granted to one of the present inventors on April 17,

1894; this invention embodying certain novel and valuable features which add materially to the strength and wearing qualities of, the link: and our invention will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a piece of our improved chain. Fig. 2 is a detail view, on an enlarged scale, of one of the links. Fig. 3 is a similar view taken from the opposite side to that shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an edge View. Figs. 5 and 6 are respectively a perspective view and an edge view showing the double loop of the link arranged in a plane at right angles to the single loop, as herein- 5 after described;

Our new and improved chain links are formed each of a single piece or length of wire, which is bent at its center to form a single loop, 1, said loop being about half the 0 length of the proposed link; the side wires, 2, at the inner end of this loop being offset or bent inward toward each other, at 3, 3, then offset again at 4 in the general direction of the link, crossing each other as shown, the 5 wire-ends or shanks being then curved to form loops 5, 5, which register with each other, forming a double loop as shown in Figs. 1 to 4 in the same plane with the single loop 1; the ends of the wire running back to the central offsets where they are passed curves or bends, asvarious minor changes or deflections may be made without departing from the spirit of our invention.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A chain link formed of a single piece of wire bent at its center to form the single loop, the side wires being then offset toward each other at the termination of said loop, then offset in the general direction of the link, extended and crossing each other, and then curved to form the two registering loops, the ends of the wire running back and passing through the single loop, and terminating in eyes which closely encircle the offsets of their respective shanks; substantially as set forth.

2. A chain link formed of a single piece of wire, bent at its center to form the single loop, the side wires being theuoffset toward each other at the termination of said loop, then offset again in the general direction of the link, extending and crossing each other, and then curved to form the two registering loops which extend in the same plane with the single loop forming the other half of the link, the ends of the wire running back past the central ofisets, passing through the single loop, and terminating in the eyes which closely encircle the ofisets of their respective shanks; substantially as set forth.
