Description
UNITED STATES WILLIAM H. SEYMOUR, OF
LIVERPOOL, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLAMPS FOR STAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,757, dated February 20, 1866.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H SEYMOUR, of Liverpool, Onondaga county, New York, have invented a new and` Improved Clamp to be used in Shingling, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specitication, in which- Figure l represents a side view of the clamp with all the parts in their places ready for use. Fig. 2 represents an inside view of' the lower part of the clamp, and Fig. 3 an inside view of the upper side.
Similar letters ofreferenoe in the three views indicate corresponding parts.
The clamp is made with two lever parts, a and b, a representing the lower part, and b the upper part. For the purpose of keeping the clamp from slipping on the roof and'holding it rmly to its plaee l make the spurs o, near the long end of the lever part, one near' one side and the other near the other side.
For holding the two parts together a hinge is made and held by the pin d.
The jaws ot' the clamp g are made with an opening between them sufeient to hold on a course of shingles already nailed, and thus with the spurs holding the clamp, upon which the scaffolding is made to'rest against the top of the thum b-serew e.
For the purpose of adjusting and tightening or loosening the clamp, the thumb-screw e is used and made to work in the screw-holef, ot' the proper size to receive the screw.
What I claim as my invention, is-
The arrangement of the parts at, b, o, d, e, g, and j', substantially as above described, construoted and made to operate substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
W. H. SEYMOUR. Witnesses:
N. B. SMITH, P. GORBETT.
