N. SCHRODER. DISPLAY BOX.
No. 521,050. Patented June 5, 1894.
NITED STATES PATENT Brion.
NICHOLAS SOHRODER, OF YORK, N. Y.
DISPLAYBOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofiletters Patent No. 521,050, dated June 5, 1894.
Application ined Gatter 9, 1893.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that 1, NICHOLAS SCHRODER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Paper Box for Scarfs and other Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved paper box, which is simple and durable in construction, can bevcheaply manufactured, and is more especially de signed for conveniently holding scarfs and other articles in position for shipment and display in stores. A
The invention consists of certain parts and details, and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter described and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspectiveview of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the blank for the holder; and Figa is a perspective view of part of the holder.
The box A for the reception of the article is provided with a holderB made in the shape of a- Ystrip C, preferably of cardboard, stiff paper, sheet metal or other suitable material.
The length of the strip C corresponds to the width of the box A, and the blank froml which the strip is cut is formed at its sides with the flanges C and C2, between which are arranged transversely-extending slots Ca into one side of which extends a tongue C4 projecting from the flange C. The strip O is further provided with longitudinally-extending creases C5, O6, and C", of which the creases C5 and O6, connect the flanges C and C2 with the intervening parts O8, through the middle of which Aextends the crease C7. Now, in order to form the holder, the flanges O and C2 are pushed toward each other so that the intervening parts CS form triangular projections, While the tongues G4 extend with their free edges against the inner edges of that part of the serial No. 487,608. (Nomoiei.)
flange C2cutout at the slot C3. The tongues O4 thus form stops to hold the triangular projections in the proper position. The under sides of the flanges C', O2, and the tongues C4 are fastened by glue or other adhesive substance, to the top surface of the bottom of the box A, the flange O preferably abutting against the upper side of the box, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. l and 2. Now, when the holder is fastened in the box, the triangular projections formed of the parts Cs form cuts or notches for the reception of the goods, as indicated in Fig. 1, sufficient space being left between the projections and the upper end of the box for the bow and neck-band of the scarf. The end triangular projections abut against the sides of the box, so that the latter is considerably strengthened by the holder, besides forming'a holder for the goods to be displayed.
It will be seen that a holder constructed in vthis manner can be cheaply manufactured,
readily secured in place in the box, and at the same time is stronger and fully serves the purpose for which the ordinary blocks secured individually in the box are now employed.k
The slots C3 may be straight or have obtuse angle'sides', as illustrated in Fig. 3, so that the triangular projections are nearer together at the top than at their bases.
For very wide boxes I may employ two or morev such strips arranged one alongside the otherdas the case may require. Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A paper box provided with a holder, comprising flanges adapted to be secured to the bottom'of the box, triangular projections ex'- tending between the flangesmand forming notches for the reception of the article, and tongues extending from one of the flanges to abut the opposite flange at the inner edge thereof, substantially as shown and described.
NICHOLAS SOHRODER.
