To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS PATRICK CAR BOLL, of Franklin Furnace, county of Sussex, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Car-Couple's, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The Object of my invention is to produce improved mechanism for elevating the drawhead of couplings to suit dierent heights of Q cars.
In the accompanyin-g drawings: Figure 1' is a side elevation of a draw-bar, with the draw head in the lowered position. Fig..2 is a similar view, with the drawhead in the elevated position. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the draw-head separated from the draw-bar. Fig. 4: is a top plan view of the draw-bar with the draW-head detached;
Referring to the figures on the drawings: l indicates a draw-bar adapted to be carried in suitable bearings 2 on the bottom of the car and having a spring buffer. 3, as illustrated.
4 indicates a box open at the top and front and adapted to carry a closely fitting drawhead 5. The box is preferably made integral with the end of the draw-bar, as illustrated.

' selecting the higher or lower apertures 7 the elevation of the draw-head may be controlled. The pins are preferably provided with heads 12 and hinged ends 13, which, being bent down after the pins are inserted, serve as convenient means for fastening them in place. The
sides of the draw-head are preferably pro-' vided with vertical guide ribs 14,`that move in recesses 15 in the sides of the box.

It will be readily understood how two cars furnished with similar drawheads may be coupled by their engagement with the link, the vertical adjustment of the drawheads acconmodating them and pins adapted to enter into the apertures and the notches, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
4. The combination with a draw-bar and box, a vertically movable draw-head, mechanism for securely adjusting the elevations of the draw-head, and a screw in ,the bottom of the box adapted to raise and lower the drawhead, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
