No. 519,268. Patented May 1, 1894.
\ Attorney UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC NoAE, oE NEW YORK,` N. Y.
NECKTlE-SHIELD..
SPECIICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,268, dated May 1, 1 894. l Application filed December 30,1893.` Serial No. 495,242. (No model i To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC NoAR, "a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shields and Loops for Neck-Wear; and I dodeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact-description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference `marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a rear elevation of the invention and Fig. 2 is a similar view of same varied as to form.
This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in shields and loops for neckwear, and is designed to provide a simple and efficient shield made from a single piece of wire and having a loop secured thereto in an improved manner; and the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the manufacture of my improved shield, I take a piece of flexible wire of the proper 3o length and size, and bend `it into the usual outline of devices of this character, having the base a, and the two curved wings b, b, as shown in the accompanying drawings. The two end portions of the Wire are brought together at the center of the base of the shield, and are twisted around each other and carried transversely across the body portion of `the shield, and secured by twisting around upper arm c formed by the junction of the two wings. The end portions ofan elastic loop A are twisted in with the.two end portions of the wire, as shown, and in this manner the elastic is held securely without being` knotted, and without the aid of `any independent fastening device or means.
Attached to the elastic A is a wire buttonloop B which is preferably of oval form, offset at g toreceivethe shank of the button, and formed with two small, nearly closed eyes h for engagement with the elastic in the manner shown.
By uniting and intertwisting `the end portions of the wire forming the shield in the manner specified,I not only provide a `con- Venient means for attaching the elastic A, but I also provide the shield with a brace which gives it the necessary rigidity.
The wire may be wound or covered, and the entire shieldmay be covered with any suitable fabric.
The general form of the shield may be varied to adapt it to different shapes of ties, as
the dierent figures of the drawabout one-half the depth of the shield, then spreading said end portions and connecting them at different points to the opposite arm of the frame, a piece of elastic intertwisted with said end portions and thereby held without other fastening means, and a metallic loop `for thefneck button, said loop having eyes through which said elastic passes, substantially asspecified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
ISAAC NOAR.

LOUIs BERJER.
