Beitknown that I, WALLACE B. HUNTER, a 'citizen of the' United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have vvinvented certain vnew and useful Improvements in Instruments of Precision, of which the followingis a speci- Iication. Y l. u
The object ofmy invention is to produce a simple, compact Vand useful instrument, combining the elements of a rule, compass and square. Ordinarily, the elements herein combined, are made separately, therefore they are not convenient to carryor handle.
Referring now to the drawings, similar letters represent corresponding part-s.
Figure -1--4- is a side View of the device. Fig. -2- vis a plan View, and Fig. ffl-.is
. an end View, showing pencil clamp, set screw and a cross section of leg -A- at 3-3.
`The body of the'instrument is composed of ings, so that it may be used as a pivot when the instrument is used, for describing circles.
Y A'sliding clamp -G- is so arranged upon is lpassed 'through Vperforationsin the said clamp, thepencil andl clamp 4may be moved along the leg A to any desired point and then firmly `secured invplace by screwing up set s'crew-E-.- -Leg -.A- contains a series of perforations (F, F, &c., as shown in the drawings) which may be used, wheny layingl out work, by passing the endv ofv a pencil through one lof the perforations at the point wherea pivot is desired, and the marking 4o is madeto overlap the edgesl of leg --A-` as shown in the drawings, and a portion of the overlapping clamp 1s pointed so as to act as an indicator when moved along the graduations aforesaid. p f
What I claim isv In au instrument of the character` described,
two legs or portions of the ldevice arranged at right angles vto each other, one of said legs being graduated on one side a series of perforat-ions, through the thickness of said legs,
overlapping parts ofthe said clamp being f sharpened and adapted to act as an indicator 6o 'K along the said graduation) perforations fthrough the said clamp for the reception of the pencil and means for holding the said pencil and clamp at any predetermined point substantially as set forth.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 17th day of March, A. D. 1893.
