RUBBING-APRON FOR CARDlNG-MACHINES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 512,530, dated January 9, 1894. Application filed October 16, 1893. Serial No. 488,314. (No model.)

To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JAMES BARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Rubbing-Aprons for Garding Machines, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a rubbing apron for carding machines with simple and efiicient means for retaining said apron in proper lateral position in respect to the carrying rolls of the same, and this object I attain in the manner hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, is a perspective view of part ofa rubbing apron for carding machines provided with retainers constructed in accordance with my invention. Difliculty has been experienced in providing rubbing aprons for carding machines with retainers which will prevent the lateral slipping or shifting of the apron upon its carrying rolls without interfering with the proper flexibility of the apron at the edges, and my invention has been devised with the view of in proper lateral position on said rolls by pre- Fig. 3, is a secventing any lateral slipping or displacement of the same at either end. The flanges are rounded as shown in Fig. 3 so that their ends are not likely to come in contact with the 'end of the roll, and the outer faces of the plates a are likewise rounded so as to accord with the curve assumed by the apron in passing around the rolls B. Hence the retaining blocks do not in any way interfere with the perfect flexibility of the edge portions of the apron.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the rubbing apron and its carrying rolls with a series of metal blocks disposed at some distance apart from each other around theinner face of the apron adjacent to the edge, the inner portions of said blocks serving, by contact with the ends of-the rolls, to prevent lateral movement of the apron on said rolls, substantially as specified.

2. The combination of the rubbing apron and its carrying rolls, with the retaining blocks disposed aroundthe inner face of the apron adjacent to the edge of the same, said retaining blocks having curved outer faces, substantially as specified.

3. The combination of the rubbing apron and its carrying rolls, with the retaining blocks disposed around the inner face of the apron adjacent to the edge, the inner end of each block being curved in order to prevent the block from catching on the ends of the rolls, substantially as specified.
