. enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in door checks or securers, and I aim to provide a check, which is adapted to hold a door either partly or wide open, by means of a spring actuated bolt, hav.- ing a rubber base of peculiar shape, the said bolt being operated, raised or lowered and held in an engaging position by mechanism to be hereinafter fully described.

My improved door check is adapted to be secured to a free swinging side of the door near its edge, and having the rubber base portion bearing against the carpet or floor, there is no wearing or marring the latter.

My invention consists further in the novel construction, combination and adaptation of the parts which will be hereinafter fully described, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

I clearly illustrate my invention in the following drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon form a part of this specification, like letters of reference indicating like parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 represents a door-check as attached to the side of a door, in an engaging position. Fig. 2,is a view of the check with bolt raised, or held from an engaging position. Fig. 3, is a detail'view of the lever operating mechanism.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A, represents a side of a door, near the edge of which is secured my spring actuated bolt Bby means of the guides b which are screwed to the face of the door.

0 is a coil spring bearing against the lower guide and against a lug c passing through the bolt at a convenient distance from the lower guide, so as to give sufficient tension to the spring, when said bolt is in an engaging position to holdthe same against the floor, to hold the door open as wide as desired. To the bottom of the bolt is secured a rubber base, whose lower floor engaging surface is concaved, to better hold, by friction, against the floor.

To the upper end of my spring actuated bolt, I provide mechanism for actuating said bolt as follows:--At a convenient distance from the knob of a door, I secure the bifurcated lever support -D, between the arms (:1 of which is pivoted the lever E, ate, which lever carries the link F, adapted to engage with the other end of said link, a notch n near the upper end of the spring-actuated bolt. Between two upwardly extending arms of the bifurcated lever support E, is a spring engaging dog H notched as at h, and I is a press button which passes through a slot in the lever E, Y

and is provided to disengage the notched dog H from a retaining notch h at or near the upper end of the spring-actuated bolt B.

The operation of my improved door check will be readily understood. When it is desired to hold a dopr open, a person has merely to raise the lever E,press the button I, which releases the dog H from the notch h and the tension of the springO holds the rubber base of the bolt against the floor or carpet, and with the provision of a rubber base with concaved lower surface,I provide a check which will present a more satisfactory frictional bearing to hold the door-ajar.

It will be noticed that whether the bolt is held in an engaging position with the floor, or raised and held from engagement with the floor, the lever E drops by gravityagainst the side of the door, and consequently does not project from the door, which would render it objectionable.

Having thus described my invention,'what 1 claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a door check, the combination of a spring actuated bolt having a rubber base which is concaved on its lower surface, a bifurcated lever support, to the arms of which is pivoted a lever carrying a link which engages with notches on the said bolt, the spring engaging dog H, and the press button I adapted to release said dog from engagement with the 10 notches of the bolt 13, all substantially as shown and described.
