OIL STOVE.
No. 510,236. Patented Dec; 5, 1893.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. BOECK, OF J ACKSON, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO HUGH L. SMITH, OF SAME PLACE.
OIL-S SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,236, dated DecembefE, 1893.
To all whom it may concern.-
I 3e it known that 1, CHARLES H. BoEoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at J ackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention consists in the peculiar combination, construction and arrangement of the various parts.
In the drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of my improved stove. Fig.2 is avertical, central section thereof. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line so or of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detached perspective View of the deflector plate. 7
My invention is particularly designed to simplify the construction of the parts, so that the oil tank may be removed with convenience, and further, whereby an oven may be formed at the upper end of the heating chamber Without detracting from the ornamental appearance of the stove, or from the effectiveness of the heater and air circulator, and further in the construction, arrangement and combination of the parts.
A is a ring shaped base supported upon the legs B, and divided in front, the two ends connected together by means of the depending strap 0.
D is the front plate extending vertically from a point slightly in front of the center of the base.
E is a semi-circular back casing secured at its forward edges to the outer ends of the front plate and at its lower edge-to the base ring.
F is a top plate supported on the front and back plate respectively and secured thereto in the usual manner.
G is the ring shaped oil tank supported on the base and having the wick and air tubes H extending above and below. The strap is sufficiently below the bottom of the base to allow of the withdrawal of the tank horizontally therefrom, when the doors I and I are opened.
J is an inner casing concentrically arranged within the outer casing E slightly separated o therefrom and forming an annular air flue K between.
Application filed May 31, 1893. Serial No. 476.128. (No model.)
L is a partition plate supported on an interior flange of the casing J and fitting tightly around the same.
M is a burner ring detachably hinged to the rear side of the plate L by means of pivoted arms N engaging in grooved lugs O on said plate. The ring M makes a tight joint at its edges with the inner edges of the plate L and has formed integral with it, the cone or defiector plate 0. This plate also at its forward edge tightly fits the inner face of the door I, forming a combustion chamber P above the ring and plate L to which air has communication only through the air supply tubes of the burner. The ring M when in its normal position locks the tank against lateral movement by engaging around the upper end of the burner tube. To remove the tank when the door I is opened the ring M is turned upon its hinges to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 and its upper edge engages with the inclined locking portion P of the partition plate P arranged midway the length of the combustion chamber thereby locking the ring 7 5 in its raised position, so that the tank may be readily removed without the necessity of bolding up the ring, which will remain in this position until the tank is re-inserted when it may be lowered to its initial position.
The partition P is provided with a series of marginal apertures a and preferably with a central aperture 1). The top F is provided with a series of apertures 0 Within the combustion chamber and preferably with a series 85 of apertures (1 above the air chamber K. On the top I secure a substantially rectangular casing Q.
Risa cresting forming the front of the oven, the rear of which is formed by the casing Q. 0
In the top of the stove I hinge a door R by means of hooks R engaging apertures in the front edge of the top, and adapted to close the front of the oven.
S is an oven plate secured centrally of the 5 top and raised therefrom by means of the feet S so that the products of combustion coming from the combustion chamber will strike that plate, pass to the edges of the oven, finding exit through the aperture S formed centrally too of the top plate S of the oven and thence laterally in the passage-way T between this top plate in the top of the casing Q, finding exit through the marginal apertures T in said casing.
U is the filler nipple of the tank which extends forward and upward therefrom.
U is the raising and lowering shaft for the wick. These are arranged side by side and beneath the cutaway portion U in the curved flange U of the door and are adapted to be covered by means of the sliding plate V, forming a complementary portion of the curved flange U of the door.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. In an oil stove, the combination of the casing, the independent removable oil tank and burner supported at the lower end thereof, of a partition plate secured in the casing around the burner, and a burner ring engaging around the burner forming a complementary portion of the plate and hinged thereto, substantially as described.
2. In an oil stove, the combination of the casing, the oil tank and burner supported at the lower end thereof, of an inner back wall separated from the back casing and concentric therewith, a partition plate fitting said wall and the front casing having a central slot extending to its forward edge, and a burner ring, hinged to the rear edge of the plate, and filling said slot in its closed position, substantially as described.
3. In an oil stove, the combination of the casing, the oil tank and burner at the base, a
partition around the burner having a central slot to its forward edge, a burner ring hinged to the plate surrounding the burner and filling the slot, a central partition in the combustion chamber above the burner, and alocking bearing thereon, with which the hinged plate is adapted to engage to hold it in its open position for the removal of the tank, substantially as described.
4:- In an oil stove, the combination of the casing, the oil tank and burner at the base, the partition plate L around the burner, the hinged burner plate M having the cone 0' made integral therewith, the central apertured partition plate I having the inclined locking portion P with which the upper edge of the plate M is adapted to engage, substantially as described.
5. In an oil stove, the combination with the base, casing, oil tank burner and door, of the curved bottom flange U on the door, the feed nipple for the tank and the Wick shaft arranged beneath said flange and the movable section V of said flange the parts arranged and operating, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES H. BOECK.
