UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE B. SARGHET, OF BUTTE, MONTANA.
DUST PAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 509 ,689, dated November 28, 1893.
Apnlication filed March 8. 1893. Serial No. 465,099. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. SARCHET, of Butte, in the county of Silver Bow and State of Montana, have invented a new and Improved Dust-Pan, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved dust pan, which is simple and durable in construction, arranged for conveniently gathering up and retaining the sweepings in the pan, and adapted to conveniently discharge the sweepings whenever desired.
The invention consists of a central receptacle mounted to turn in a frame.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a plan View of theimprovement with parts broken out; and Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The improved dust pan is provided with a frame A formed with a depressed circular seat B, in which is fitted a receptacle 0 mounted to turn at its center on a pivot D attached to the bottom of the seat B, as is plainly shown in the drawings.
The receptacle 0 is provided with a segmental flange G forming, at its ends, a mouth or opening for the receptacle, the said mouth being adapted to register with an inlet F arranged on one side of the frame A and having an inclined bottom and flanges on its sides, as shown in the drawings.
On one end of the segmental flange (3 of the receptacle C is arranged a handle Efor conveniently turning the said receptacle so as to move its opening or mouth into and out of registry with the inlet F of the frame A. The mouth of the receptacle is also adapted to register with an outlet G arranged in alignment with the bottom of the seat B, so that when the mouth of the receptacle registers with the said outlet and the frame A is slightly tipped to one side with the outlet G downward, then the sweepings contained in the receptacle are readily discharged through the mouth and outlet G to one side of the pan.
In order to conveniently manipulate the frame A, I provide the same with a suitable handle H, having its lower part bent under the bottom of the seat B, the extreme end being turned over, as at H, under the bottom of the frame A, so that the inclined bottom of the inlet F is brought conveniently to the floor or table or other object from which the sweepings are swept over the said inlet into the receptacle 0.
It is understood that the inner end of the inlet F is in the shape of the segment of a circle, conforming to the circular seat B, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 1.
A stop I is secured to the inlet F, and projects into the path of the flange 0' of the receptacle C, to limit the turning motion of the latter at the time the mouth or opening of the said receptacle registers with the outlet G.
Havingthus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A dust pan comprising a frame having a depressed circular seat, an inlet leading to the said seat, an outlet from the said seat, and a receptacle mounted to turn in the said seat, the said receptacle having an opening in one side adapted to register with the said inlet or the said outlet, substantially as shown and described.
2. A dust pan comprising a frame having a depressed circular seat, an inlet leading to the said seat and having an inclined bottom, an outlet from the said seat, and a receptacle mounted to turn in the said seat, the said receptacle having an opening in one side adapted to register with the said inlet or the said outlet, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a dust pan, the combination with a frame comprising a depressed circular seat, an inclined inlet leading to the seat, and an outlet extending from the seat at one side thereof and arranged angularly to the said inlet, of a receptacle mounted to turn in the said seat, the said receptacle being provided with a segmental flange and with an opening in one side adapted to register with the said inlet or the said outlet, substantially as shown and described.
