G. G. KLINE. HORSE'SHOE.
No. 507,276; Patented Oct; 24, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE o. KLINE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HORSESHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 507,276, dated October 24, 1893.
Application filed February 14, 1893. Serial No. 462,314. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE O. KLINE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in horseshoes by which the foot of the horse is protected. against injurious concussions of the calks Of the shoe with projecting portions of the pavement or other impediments; and the invention consists of a horseshoe, the body of which is provided at its front end or too with a rounded off calk and the rear-endsorheels of which are thickened,whi1e the intermediate portions are made of uniform thickness and provided with intermediate rounded Off projections inside of the nail-groove, the faces of said projections being on a level with the lowermost portion of the toe-calk and thickened heels of the shoe, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying-drawings Figure 1, represents a side-elevation of my improved horse-shoe, shown as applied to the hoof of a horse. Fig. 2, is a vertical longitudinal section of myimproved shoe on line 2-2, Fig.3; and Fig. 3, is a bottom-view of the shoe, Figs. 2 and .3 being drawn on a larger scale than Fig. 1.
bimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings A represents the body of my improved horse-shoe which is provided at its front-end or too with an upwardly extending clip aand at the under side with a rounded Off calk b. The middle portions D of the body A, in which the nail-grooves d are arranged, are made of uniform thickness, the nail-grooves being provided with holes for the fastening nails. The rear-ends or heels e of the body A are thickened, the thickening being not made abruptly but onaslant or inclination from the middle portions toward the outermost rear-ends of the shoe. The gradually-thickened rear-ends or heels 6 and the rounded 0E toe-calk b strike with less force against any impediment of the ground and so that the foot is subjected in a less degree to the injurious influence of concussions with the pavement. The middle-portions d of the body A are provided each inside of the nail-grooves d with a projection c that is likewise rounded off at the ends, and the lower part or face of which is on a level with the lowermost portions of the toe calk b and heels 6 so as to give an even rest to thelfoot of the horse. The projections c serve to strengthen the middle portion ddof the shoe and furnish a better support for the foot of the horse, while the rounded off toe calk and thickened heels furnish an easier wearing shoe by which a less injurious influence is exerted on the hoof of the horse.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Ahorse-shoe, the body of which is provided with a transverse rounded toe-calk,thickened and slanting heels also rounded off on their faces and intermediate projections between the toe-calk and heels located inside of the nail-grooves and provided with rounded OE ends, the faces on the intermediate projections being on a level, or nearly so, with the faces onv the lowermost portions of the toecalk and heels so as to furnish an even support for the foot of the horse, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE O. KLINE. Witnesses:
OSCAR F. GUNZ, PAUL GOEPEL.
