N. Frrzns mmuam w. wa-wn m. me
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEO LLOYD THOMAS, OF NEW PHILADELPHIA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVED SlRUP-BOILER AND EVAPORATOR.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 50,644, dated October 24, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatl, LLOYD THOMAS, of New Philadelphia, in the county ofMcDonough and State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Modeot'BoilingMolassesoranyLquids that may Require Boiling; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description'thereot', reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in hollow grate-bars, on which the tire and fuel are placed, through which the liquid is to pass out of one chamber into another chamber. Then said liquid is to pass through a skimmer into the evaporating-pan.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my evaporating pan and stack in any of the known forms, and apply thereto my two chambers, which are to form part of the heating-furnace. The cold liquid is to I enter into chamber one, (1,) as shown in the accompanying drawing, and to pass through the hollow fire-grate bars to prevent their burning, and also to boil theliquids, that may pass through them into chamber two, (2,) at thetop of which is placed a skimmer, through which the liquids are to pass for the purpose ofskiming off all skims that may arise.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. Thehollowgrate-bars on which the fire and fuel are placed, through which anyliquids may pass for the purpose of heating said liquids, and for the preservation or the grate-bars and the chambers which form part of the heatingfurnace, and boiling anyliquids that may pass through them.
2. A skimmer that is placed at the top of chamber two (2.)
