CHURN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. v502,286, dated August l, 1893. Application tiled October 2.9, 1891. Serial No. 410.202. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, MANNING ELLIorr and AARON J. ORIGLER, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Monroe City,
in the county of Monroe and State of Missouri,
haveinvented certainnew and usefullmprovements in Ohurns, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Our invention relates to an improvement in churns, and it consists in the detailed construction and combination of parts substantially as hereinafter disclosed and pointed out in the claims.
lIn the accompanying drawings: Figure] is a side elevation of our churn. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detailed view showing one of the retaining and limiting stops of the churn body. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the churn cover.
In the embodiment of our invention, we provide the vessel or body, A, with an' ordinary handle, a, at one side, which is grasped bythe hand for reciprocating the churn. The churn body,A,is convex on its bottom and mounted upon a base or frame, B, having at its center two parallel, conical or tapering projections or guides, b b, one upon each of the two side pieces of the frame or base, and engaging rectangular sockets, c c, formed or framed, or otherwise .pnt together, of pieces secured to the sides of the churn body, thus providing for the rocking or reciprocation of the churnbody and the retention of the same in posi# tion against displacement when in operation. The churn body has centrally held in lateral grooves, d d, therein,a beater,O, for the thorough agitation and breaking up of the globules of milk or cream, consequently the effective churning or conversion of the same into butter in the minimum time. The-beater, C, hasaseries of horizontal spaced apart slats, e, of diamondV shape in cross sect-ion, and, at its bottom, a cross piece or base, c', somewhat wider than said slats and having in its under sidea series of transverse grooves or recesses, e2, for the passage of Y the most minute particles of the contents of the churn body along the bottom thereof to prevent accumulation of sediment thereat. The end of the churn is further provided with a slot c2, for the reception of the lips c3, of the cover, whereby said cover is held in position.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is- 1. The churn body, having in its center the beater, having the series of diamond shape slats, and the bottom piece provided with a series of transverse groovesA or recesses, and
thebaseor frame having the tapering or coni- -cal projections or guides adapted to engage sockets Vof the churn body, substantially as Set forth.
2'. A churnV the combination of the body having in its center the beater having a series of Nslats, and the bottom piece provided with ase-ries of transverse grooves or recesses, and the base or frame having tapering conical projections adapted to engage sockets in the churn body, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
MANNING ELLIOTT. AARON J. CRIGLER.
