BOARD FOR WINDING VEILS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 491,808, dated February 14, 1893. Application filed November 8, 1892- Serial No. 451,308. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SIMON ()PPENHEIMER, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boards for Winding Veils; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to boards for supporting veils or veilingwonnd thereon in the form of a bolt; and the object of my invention is produce a device of this character particularly adapted for supporting a strip of bordered veiling wound thereon in such manner that the completed bolt will have a substantially uniform thickness from end to end, while at the same time providing a light and strong board for this purpose.

When along strip, as twelve yards or more, of ladies veiling having tufted or beaded borders is wound on a board or equivalent support, there is a tendency of the complete bolt to be thicker at those portions Where the borders of the veilng are wound than at the interm ediate portions; and in order that a series of such bolts of veiling may be properly piled one upon another if desired, and in order that a single bolt may have a better appearance, I have provided a board which shall be thicker at its center than at its ends.

My invention consists in the board as hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawing which accompanies and forms part of this specification, a a represent two pieces of thin material, as pasteboard, permanently united together at their ends a,

as by cloth or paper passed over said ends and glued, cemented or otherwise fastened thereto. At about the center of the two pieces a a is a brace b which may be of paste-board or other suitable material having its opposite edges glued, cemented or otherwise fastened to the two pieces a a; and preferably I provide two more braces b b ofslightly less width than the brace 12, located intermediate between the brace 12 and the ends a, and secured in manner similar to that of the brace 19.

It will be readily understood that upon winding a number of yards of bordered veiling upon the completed board, said winding being in the direction of the arrow 1, or in a direction reverse thereto, the thinness of the board at its ends will compensate for the increased thickness of the material wound owing to the quantity of beads or tufts at either edge of the strip.

Obviously, modifications may be made in the proportions and relative arrangement of the parts shown; and it will be understood also that the pieces a. Ct may be formed by bending or folding a single strip of material at a sharp angle and uniting the two ends together in manner such as described.

Having now described my invention, what I claim is:

A board for winding veils, consisting of two pieces or strips of suitable material fastened together at their ends and having separating braces secured between the central portions of said pieces, substantially as described.
