Be it known that I, Gnonon F. iinNsnL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Pendants forDrcss- Trimmings, 800., of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to permit greater variety than usual in the designs formed upon the pendants by the ornamental threads or cords usually employed for the purpose. This object I attain in the manner hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figures 1, 2, 3, 4t and 5 represent different forms of tassels or pendants constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 6 is a sectional view of one of the blocks, that shown in Fig. 3 being selected as an example, and Figs. 7 and S are views of modified forms of blocks.

Ornamental tassels or pendants such as form the subject of my invention, are usually composed of a wooden block completelyoovered with fine silk threads, and having other threads, cords, chenilles, 850., of an ornamental character on the surface, but an objection to blocks of this class as heretofore made, has been the limited range of decoration possible with these ornamental surface threads, owing to the fact that such ornamental threads were invariably carried from the top to the bottom of the block, the central opening w in the block extending from end to end of the latter being the only available passage for the tying threads whereby the ornamental surface threads g were confined to the block. In order to overcome this objection I form in the block a series of open ings it), having terminations between the op posite ends of the block, so that the designs formed by the decorative surface thread or threads y may have terminations at any desired point on the block. For instance, the thread may be carried from one end of the block to one or more points between the ends of the block, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or it may be carried from both ends of the block to one or more intermediate points, as in Figs. 3 and i, or a design composed of this ornamental thread y may be formed wholly between the ends of the block, as for example, in Fig. 5, much greater variety of decorative effect being thereby possible than when the decorative thread has to be carried from end to end of the block, as usual.

In carrying out my invention it is preferable to bore transverse openings win the block at an angle directed toward one or other of the ends of the central opening w, as shown in Fig. 6, so that the needle carrying the tying thread for the decorative surface thread or cord 3 can be readily passed through said transverse openings either from the outside or from the central opening of the block.

My invention may be carried out, also, with blocks which have no central opening, for instance, in Fig. 7 I have shown a solid block, the inclined openings at of which terminate at the centers ofthe opposite ends of the block, and in Fig. 8 I have shown a block having a rounded surface and openings 00 passing vertically through the block from points below the center of this rounded surface to points above the same, and otheropeniugs may pass transversely through the block, if desired, as shown, for instance, by dotted lines.

Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat- 6ilt:

1. A tassel or pendant for trimmings, having figures or designs formed thereon by means of a decorative surface cord, held in place by tying threads passing through openings in the block, some of the terminations.

of said figures or designs being at points between the opposite ends of the block, substantially as set forth.

2. A tassel or pendant for trimmings, having figures or designs formed thereon by means of a decorative surface cord held in place by tying threads passing through openings in the block, said surface cord extending from the center of the block at one end to points between said end and the opposite end of the block, substantially as specified.
