MEANS FOR ATTACHING MAGAZINES TO FIREARMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,677. dated December 6, 1892.
Application tiled August 1, 1892. Serial No. 441,824. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MASON, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvernent in Firearms; and I do hereby de. Clare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure l, a side View of the forward end of the magazine and portion of the barrel, showing the improvement in attachment of the magazine to the barrel; Fig. 2, a'transverse section on line oc .t of Fig. l, looking to the left; Fig. 3, a longitudinal central section showing the forward end portion 0f the magazine and its pin in side view.
This invention relates to an improvement in firearms, the invention having for its object to provide a convenient means for detachably securing the magazine to the barrel; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described, and particularly re two part-s separated by this split form jawsE E, extending upward and-shaped upon their faces so as to embrace the barrel F, as seen in Fig, 2, the band having a certain degree of elasticity. A screw G is introduced through the two parts between the barrel and the pin B, by which the two jaws may be drawn together, so as to securely grasp the barrel. Vhenever it is desired to remove the magazine, the grasp of the band upon the barrel is relaxed, so that the band may be drawn forward from the 'pinV B on the magazine. The screw G should take into the under side of the barrel to a slight extent, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, so as to prevent the band from sliding longitudinally on the barrel, such being a common expedient for like purposes.
I claim- In a magazine firearm, a magazine constructed with a' pin projecting from its forward end, combined with a band having an opening into which the said pin may set, the band split above the said opening, forming two branches, the branches terminating in jaws constructed to embrace the barrel, withva screw through the two parts between thc barrel and said pin, substantially as described. In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presi-nce of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM MASON.
