UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
H. w. Dori), 0EA BUFFALO, NEW YOEK.
,SAD-IRON HEATER.
Specification forming part o f Letters Patent No. 48,380, dated June 27, 1865.
To all 'whom it may concern: y
Beit known that I, H. W. DOPP, of Buffalo,
in the county of Erie, State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Heating Smoothing-Irons by means of Oarbureted- Hydrogen Gas; andldoherebydeclare thatthe followin gis afull and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure I is a perspective view of the model.
' Fig. II isa sectional cut through thecenter.
B, and thereby becomes sufficiently mingledwith the atmosphere before combustion takes place.
Letter G is an opening ot' the shape of a slot on the top of the smoothing-iron, immediately above the burner, through which the atmoshere necessary to sustain combustion passes. The object ot' having the air admitted ,from above the burner is to deflect the flame toward the bottom ot' the smoothing-iron.
Letter D is a chimney to carry off the gases ot combustion.
To operate this apparatus a connection is to be made between supply-tube A and an ordinary illuminating-gas burner, by means of a rubber tube 5 then screw back the small thumbscrew A', turn on the gas, and ignite the same now escaping out of the holes of burner B. In about ten minutes the smoothing-iron will be hot and ready for use, and constant heat coiltinued.
I claim* l. The aero-gas burner B and B', as constructed, and for the purpose described.
2. The regulating-screw A', in combination with commingling tube B', substantially as and for the purpose described.
43. rlhe slot, or its equivalent, in the'upper part of said iron, for the purpose set forth.
H. WM. DOPP.
