UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
D. M. YOUNKMAN, oE FEEMONT, oHIo.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 48,23l, dated vJune 13, 1865.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, D. M. YOUNKMAN, of Fremont, in the county ot Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drum-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a t'ull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ot this specification, in which- Figure l represents an elevation of a vertical section of a. drum-stove made according to myinventon, the section being taken on theline y of Fig. 2. Fig.2 represents a plan of a horizontal section on the line a: of Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to the class of stoves known as drum-stoves,77 which are heated by means of currents of hot air and of the products of combustion, and it consists in an improved arrangement of ues andother parts, whereby a'more economical use is made of the heat which it is to be the medium of distributing.
B is a lower, and D an upper, due-chamber. They are each cylindrical in form and ot' anyv convenient height which will allovsr a free cir` culation of the hot gases and vapors delivered within them. The lower cylinder or chamber is raised ofi" from the Hoor by means of legsap plied in any convenient way.
The/letters C designate pipes, which extend vertically between the luechambers. They are arranged in circular form near the circumference ot' the chambers. The top of the upper chamber is made with a dome-shaped central elevation, F, from the center ot' which starts the eduction-pipe E. The object of this domeshaped elevation is to facilitate the passage of the smoke and hot air into the eduction-pipe, so that their currents will not be o'bstructet and set back.
A designates the eduction-pipe. It is an elbow-shaped pipe risiu g vertically from the center of the top of the lower flue-chamber and bending outward, so that its mouth is in a horizontal line directly beneath the upper chamber. The course of the products of combustion is indicated by red arrows.
The lines or pipes C may be of any convenient number and size.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The drum-stove herein set forth, as a new article of manufacture.
D. M. YOUNKMAN.
