Description

(Model.) 7
G. BAUSGH. EYBGLASS GUARD.
No. 478,836. Patented July 12, 1892.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR, M BY I A TTORNEYJ UNITED STATES PATENLmE.
GEORGE BAUSCH, OF SYRACUSE, NEIV YORK.
EYEGLASS-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,836, dated July 12, 1892.
Application filed January 2. 1892. Serial No. 416.794. (Model) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE BAUSCH, of Syracuse, in the county of, Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Eyeglass-Guards, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description. I
My invention relates to the construction of eyeglasses, and particularly to the guards or anchors which secure the frame about the nose.
My obj ectis to provide an attachment adapted to be readily secured to the frame of eyeglasses, which may be bent either laterally or vertically, so as to adapt themselves to fit closely about a nose of any shape, and particularly to small noses, where the common eyeglasses do not form a sufficient bite orgrip for the purpose of holding the same on.
My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and which are specifically set forth in the claim hereto annexed.
It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings,in which- Figure 1 is a front view of eyeglasses provided with my improved attachment. Fig. 2
is an edge view thereof on line y 3 Fig. l.
A A are the lens-frames connected by the spring 1,all of any ordinary construction, and 2 is an ordinary noseguard secured to each lens-frame and provided with a face 3 of cork or other material. To this nose-guard or to the lens-frame I detachably connect an auxiliary guard or anchor 4, consisting of an arm by which it is so connected and provided at its free end with a pad or enlargement 5, which pads are adapted to grip the nose between the eyes and adjacent to their corners. This guard 4 and its pad 5 are adapted to be connected to the nose-guard of any style of eyeglasses and are auxiliary to the guard in that the pads operate to anchor the guards upon the nose and hold the glasses firmly upon the nose and prevent their slipping oif therefrom and holding the glasses steady and firm and preventing their shaking and vibration from any cause. In this latter respect they are a valuable aid to vision and to weak eyes. It will also be seen that these auxiliary guardarms can be readily bent with pliers, so as not only tofit the pads 5 to the nose, but to vary their tension thereon.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the lens-holders and the nose-guards secured thereto, of auxiliary guards detachably connected thereto and consisting of arms provided with pads upon their free ends and adapted to grip the nose between the eyes.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of December, 1891.
GEO. BAUSCI'I.
In presence of C. W. SMITH, HOWARD P. DENISON.
