Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 47,757, dated May 16, 1865.

Be it known that I, CHARLES B. TUCKER, of Cambridgel'iort, in the county ot' Middlesex and State ot' Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Spring Bed-Bottoni; and [do hereby declare the saine to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of Which` Figure l is a top View, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section, ofit.

ln such drawings, A denotes a rectangular frame, composed of four bars, ed cf, and having a girt 0r bar, a., extending across it at a distance from one end of it equal to about onethird or one-fourth of its length. A saclring, B, made of Woven Wire or canvas, covers the space between the bar a and the inner bar, e, ot' the frame. Each of the spring-bars C, as represented in the Each drawings, is constructed of two steel wires disposed parallel to one another at a short distance apart, and united together by two or anT other suitable number ot' crossbars, the saine being as shown in Fig. l.

From the above it will be seen tha-t each spring has one free end and one fixed or stationary end, and that when a Weight is placed on the spring so as to depress it, such spring While being bent Will cause its bearing-roller to turn more or less on its rod. The roller relieves the spring of the friction, wear, and noise which would be likely to result were the free end of the spring t0 rest on a stationar)T surface.

A spring bed bottom so made Will operate to excellent advantage as a supporter to a mattress.

I claim- The improvedspring bed-bottom as constructed of the springs C C C and the rollers h )L l1., arranged and combined together and with the frame A, substantially in manner and so as to operate as hereinafter specified.
