IMPROVED COMPOSITION FOR LINING OlL-BARRELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 46,636, dated March 7, L865.
ut'acturing (and applying the same) a firm, elastic, impervious coating by compounding roofing-cement, boiled linseed-oil, and dryingjapan.
To enable others skilled in the art to make our invention, We will proceed to describe its construction and manner of using the same.
We take, for instance, one part of dryingjapan, five parts of boiled linseed oil, and eighty parts of roofing-cement, (an article manufactured from coal-tar.) We reducethe roofing-cernent to a fluid state by heating it in a vessel or boiler, then add thereto the boiled linsced'oil, and when it is absorbed by the cement we further add the drying-japan, and after it is well mixed we apply tliecompound or our firm, elastic, impervious coating in its hot fluid state. If to the bottom of a vessel, by a swab-brush; if a post, We dip the end to go into the ground into fluid coating; if a barrel, we pour about a gallon in its hot fluid state into the bung-hole, and roll the same over and over, so as to coat the inner surface thereof.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The manufacture of the firm, elastic, impervious coating and the use of the same, as herein before substantially set forth.
