UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORRIS SCHAPIRO, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,108, dated December 29, 1891.
Application filed August 18, 1891. Serial No. 402,983- (No model.
Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 represent perspective views of shirts embodying my invention. Fig. 5 represents a vertical section on line w m, Fig. 4.
birnilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a shirt, and B the neckband thereof.
0 designates a tab or tongue, which is connected with the front of the neckband and adapted to enter a slit or hole D, which is below said band or in the bosom.
E designates a tab or tongue, which is secured to one end of the rear of the neckband and adapted to pass through a slit or hole F in the other end thereof, and also through slits 01' holes G in the back of the shirt. The tabs or tongues are partially stiffened, as at E, by means of a piece of suitable material inserted therein forming a pad, so as to possess the necessary stability, and also have flexible connections with the neckband, so as to be readily moved after the man her of hinges.
The operation is as follows: The tab E is passed through the'hole F, thus uniting the two ends of the neckband, and also through the button-hole in the rear of the collar to the outside thereof, after which it is inserted through the holes G, and its lower end is within the back of the shirt as a fastening for said end, thus connecting the rear of the collar with the shirt. (See Fig. 4.) The tab 0 is now passed through the two button-holes of the front of the collar and then through the button-hole D in the bosom of the shirt, so that its lower end is behind said bosom as a fastening, thus connecting the front of the collar with the shirt, (see Fig. 2,) no buttons or studs being employed in either case. It is evident that by withdrawing the tabs from the respective holes the collar may be removed and the shirt opened.
Referring to Fig. 4, it will be seen that the band of anecktie may be passed under and retained by the tab E.
Having tLus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A shirt having a neckband with a tab 0 secured to the inner upper part thereof, and having holes below the neckband, said tab being adapted to be removably passed through the button-hole of the adjacent part of'the neckband and into and through the holes in the shirt below said neckband to secure the parts together, substantially as described.
2. A shirt having a neckband with a tab provided with a stiffening-piece therein, said tab having a flexible connection with said band and adapted to enter holes in the said shirt and having its free end fitted thereinto and thus held, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A shirt having a neckband with a rear tab E, and provided with holes F G G, the hole F being in the end of the neckband and the holes G G in the back of the shirt, substantially as described.
