UNITED o STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES CLOVER, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO P. & F.
CORBIN, OF SAME PLACE.
COAT AND HAT HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,259, dated December 15, 1891.
I Application filed September 6,1890- Serial No. 364,097. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES GLOVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at- New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coat and Hat Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to improvements in coat and hat hooks; and the objects of my improvements are simplicity and cheapness of construction and general efficiency in the tinished article.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my hook.- Fig.2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line as w of Fig. 1.- Fig. 4 is a side elevation, partly in vertical section, of the wire part of my hook; and Fig; 5 is a perspective view of the sheet-metal socket-plate.
I form the hooks A B and the body or middle portion 6 of a single piece of Wire upset or headed at each end to form the solid heads 7. The middle portion is provided at its front side with a rivet 8, which I form in the body of the wire by striking said middle portion in a die. By making a depression on the back side, as at 9, Figs. 3 and 4, there will be stock enough in the wire for forming said rivet.
The socket-plate C is formed of sheet metal blanked out of the proper form and swaged at its middle portion to form the vertical socket 10. This base-plate is perforated at each side, as at 11, to receive fastening-screws in securing it to a wall or other surface, and it is also provided with a perforation, as at 12, Fig. 5, to receive the rivet 8 on the body of the wire portion. The parts are placed together, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, and the end of the rivet 8 hammered down to hold the parts together, thereby producing a neat, cheap, and substantial coat and hat hook from a single piece of wire and a sheet-metal socketplate.
WVhile I have shown the hooks A B and middle portion 6 as formed of wire, with heads 7 at each end, the fact that they are formed of such material, or with said heads integral or otherwise, is not material to my invention, because the material employed and the process of making the article are not essential.
I claim as my invention The herein-described coat and hat hook, consisting of the hooks A B and middle portion 6, with integral rivet 8 formed on the front side of said middle portion, andlthe sheetmetal socket-plate C, having vertical socket extending over the front of said middle portion and perforated to receive said integral rivet, the latter being. headed to secure the parts together and to prevent a swinging movement of said hooks, substantially as de scribed, and for the purpose specified.
