Description

T. WELHAM. YDRAULIG BRUSH.
No. 46,167. Patented Jan. 31, 1865.
line/J91 PIIYERS 00.. mo'r auruov, wnsnmamu o c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS W-ELHAM, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVED HYDRAULIC BRUSH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 48, I67, dated January 31, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS .WELHAM, formerly of Nebraska, but now of Washington City, District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Brush for Washing Windows, 850., which I style a Hydraulic Brush and I declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which--- Figure 1 represents the construction of the brush; Fig. 2, the chute, and Fig. 3 the shape of the buckets of the revolvingwheel.
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement and combination of a revolving brush and revolvingwater-whee-l attached to the point or nozzle of ordinary hose for .the
purpose of washing windows, 85c.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation, as follows:
A represents a water-spout or ordinary hose commonly attached'to a hydrant or head of water.
' 3 is the hose-pipe or nozzle that is screwed to the end or point of the hose.
0 is a circular boxwith a partition, 1), having two openings, E E, that form a chute for the water upon the angular buckets Gr, above.
These buckets I intend to attach to the under side or periphery of the base H of the brush I. A vertical pin or shaft, J, is permanently fastened to the center of the partition D, and projects through the center tube of the buckets G and base 11 of the brush, and is the axle upon which the buckets, base, anclbrush re volve.
I is the brush, made round and formed of bristles in the usual mode. The buckets and brush are secured to the axle or shaft J by a common washer and pin, L.
As the water passes through the nozzlefof the hose it is forced through the chutes E E, and, striking against the buckets Gr, revolves the buckets and brush, and flows through the aperture M of the base H in a spiral column from the top of the brush with the full force of the water, so as to enable the brush to be? used with the best efi'ect for washing windows or any parts of buildings requiring quick and completewashing and cleaning, or carriages, buggies, &c.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv The arrangement and combination of the revolving brush and the revolving Waterwhecl attached to the point of a water-spout or hose, as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
