BOOK-LEAF HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HENRY CLAY JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at IVashington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Book Leaf Holders; and I do hereby (leclare the following to be a full, clear, and ex-- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has relation to improvements in devices for holding the leaves of a bookin an open position; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same, whereby the entire book, as well as its pages, is held in an open position, all as will be hereinafter fully explained.

The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, illustrates my invention, in which the figure represents a perspective view of my device.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawing, A designates the holder, consisting ll ltllllQlllll'Ol' tll'lllttllll'llllllt "it (ill plate is pivoted a spring-actl'iated angular arm or rod B. This rod is provided with a coil-spring e, which serves to press the rod upon the leaves of a book.

It will be observed that in applying my device to a book the fingers grasp the cover at its upper edge and the rod lies and presses down upon the leaves, thus not only holding the pages, but also holding the entire book, open, and it is simple in construction and operation, can be easily and quickly applied to a book, is ornamental, durable, and at the same time cheap to manufacture.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s

1. A device for holding leaves of a book open, comprising an angular plate having attaching'fingers composed of spring-plates, and an angular spring-actuated rod connected to said plat substantially as described.

2. A device for holding open the leaves of abook, consisting of ahorizontalportion formlllQ, tllll'lllg Ql'lDDlllQ-Qlllls till a ver 10% nortion having attached thereto a spring-actuated angular rod to press upon the leaves when the device is attached to a book, substantially as described.
