ATTACHMENT FOR SAW-BUCKS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,278, dated October 13, 1891.

.To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, CHARLES WEsLY SANDY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Claysville, in the county of Harrison and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Saw-Bucks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to theaccompanyingdrawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in saw-bucks.

.The object of the invention is to provide a saw-buck with means forholding a log thereon, the saw-buck being attached or fixed to a frame to which a lever is pivoted, said lever carrying a hook which engages with a log, a catch being provided adjacent to the free end of the lever for holding the hook in engagement with a log placed on the saw-buck, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a saw-buck, showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is asectional View taken through the line m 00 of Fig. 1.

The frame A consists of two cross-pieces a a, to which are rigidly secured longitudinal beams B B, each of which is provided with an upwardly-projecting block located on opposite ends thereof. To the central portion of the beams B B are rigidly secured crossed beams C O, the upper portions of which form the support for the log. The crossed beams or bucks C G are so located that a central space will be left between them.

D refers to a lever which is pivoted to the post or upright b by a pin or bolt d, so that it can be adjusted vertically, as may be desired, and slightly in front of the saw-bucks this lever is provided with a slot 6, through which passes the lower end of the hook E, this hook being provided with two or more perforations, so that adjustments can be made throughthe medium of the pivot-pin f. The inner side of the upright b is provided with a ratehet-p1ate g, and the free end of the lever D carries a catch g, which engages therewith. v

When it is desired to secure a log upon the bucks, the hook is caused to engage with said device are carried by the frame, so that the same can be readily moved from place to place, as may be desired, and that the frame A will give to the saw-buck a solid and fixed foundation and has sufficient weight to hold the whole device rigid against being toppled over when the heavy end of a log projects. It will alsobe noted that as a clear space is provided between the saw-bucks the log may be sawed between them.

Having thus described my invent-ion,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In combination with a saw-buck consisting of a frame made up of longitudinal bars secured to each other and provided with sawbucks C O, uprights b and b, one of said uprights having a vertical series of perforations for adjustably securing thereto one end of the lever, a ratchet-plate carried by the op posite upright b, with which the free end of the leverengages, and a hook E, the upper end of which is adapted to engage with thelog placed on the buck, said hook being pivotall y secured to the central portion of the lever, the parts being organized substantially as set forth.
