J. J. SANDERS. BLANKET FOR IRONING BOARDS.
I No. 457,033. Patented Aug 4, 1891.
INVENTOI? 1': Moms PETERS co., mow-Lama, WASHINGTGN o. c,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN J. SANDERS, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
BLANKET FOR IRONING-BOARDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 457,033, dated August 4, 1891.
Application filed October 14, 1890. Serial No. 368,157. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN J. SANDERS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented anew and Improved Blanket for Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a blanket for ironing-boards that may be easily and quickly placed on the board, and will fit snugly, presenting a smooth surface for the ll'OIl.
My invention consists of a blanket made with a pocket to receive a filler of soft material, preferably wool'felt, and the particular means for securing the blanket to the board, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of thisspecification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is an inverted perspective view of an ironing-board with my improved blanket applied. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section.
In the drawings, A represents the board.
B is the body of the blanket, made of two thicknesses of suitable material to form a pocket to receive the filler O. For filler I preferto use a soft white felt; but any material of like nature may be used, the object being to produce a yielding yet firm surface for the iron. The edge D of the blanket is turned down and binds over the edges of the board A.
E are bands secured to one side of the edge D, with hooks F at their free ends adapted to engage with eyes G attached to the other side of said edge for retaining the blanket in place. If desired, these bands E may be made of elastic material and buckles or other fastening used.
For further security and ease of attachment, the blanketat one rounded end of board is gathered, as at H, and an elastic tape I is' run through the gather. Thusa perfect fit is obtained with the end of blanket conforming to the rounded edge of said board.
When the board is out of use, the blanket may be readily removed and rolled up to prevent the accumulation of dust.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An ironing-blanket made with a body portion filled with yielding material, and .an edge portion binding over the edge of board and gathered at one end with elastic tape, substantially as shown and described.
JOHN J. SANDERS.
Witnesses.
