ATTACHMENT FOR TELEPHONES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 453,722, dated June 9, 1891.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD E. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Telephones; and I do hereby declare the fol-' lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improved at tachment for telephones; and it consists in an adjustable device adapted to be secured to the box of a telephone for the purpose of holding beneath one side of the box 4 of a telephone.-

Adjustably secured to this base-board 1, and at right angles thereto, is a small table 5, provided at the top with an ordinary paper-clip 6, and held in position by two straps 7 8. The inner strap 7 is provided with a downward extension J and a flange 10 at right angles thereto, which projects beneath the opposite edge of the cover or lid of the telephone-box 4. The outer strap 8, which is attached to the leaf or table 5 by wood-screws, is provided with a clamping-screw 11, which serves to make the leaf 5 rigid with the base-board 1 at any desired position.

In operation a writing-pad for nieinoran dum purposes is attached by means of the clip (3. The binding-screw is first loosened and the flange 10 adjusted in the direction of the length of the base-board 1 until the same clamps tightly the two opposite edges of the box 4 and the screw 11 operated to hold the device in tliatposition.

This attachment, being adjustable, may besecured to various sizes of telephone-box lids, or may be attached to the arm of a chair, a desk, or other article of furniture.

Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The herein described attachment for telephone-boxes, consisting of a baseboard having a depending flange at one end thereof, and a leaf or table secured to said base-board and arranged to slide in suitable clamps thereon, one of said clamps being provided with a depending flange corresponding to the flange on the base-board, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The herein -described attachment for telephones, consisting of the base-board 1, a downwardly-projecting clamp 3, secured to one end thereof, a leaf or table 5 at right angles to said board, a combined strap and clamp secured beneath the leaf 5, capable of moving along the base-board 1 to serve as a clamp, and a strap 8, provided with a clampingscrcw 11. whereby the device may be attached to objects of various sizes, substantially as described.
