UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARTIAL DIMOCK, CF' NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNCR TO FITCH, ESTEE &CO., CF NEW- YORK CITY. i
APPARATUS FR CUTTING Ano CREASINGPAPER tot 'ENVI-:torts oc.
Speciication A forming part of Letters Patent No. 44,687, dated October ll, 1864.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that '1, MARTIAL DIM'ooK, of Newark,in the count-y of Essex and Stateof New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Machine for Cutting, Embossing, and Printing Envelopes, Paper Cases, and PapenBoxes; and I do hereby. declare that the followingis a full and exact description' thereof,' refereuce I being had to tlieaccompanyiug drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure luisa side elevation. Fig. 2 is an endelevation. Fig. 3 is a view of the underl surface of the die. Fig. 4 is a top View of the To accomplish the object of my invention, I attach to a bench or tabreconstructed in the ordinary manner twoupright posts, A A,
Figs. 1 and 2, securely braced. 'lhe tops of Athese postsare connected by a cross-tie, B B',
Figs. l and 2. On the inner side of the posts A A are grooves, in 'which works the sash C C, Fig. 2. The liar D D, Fig. 2, is attached to the sash, and extends beyond its sides. To
the'ends of this har'are attached by pins, upon' Whichihey Inove ,'tl1e upper ends of the upright shafts E E, Figs. 1 land 2. On the lower end of the sash C C, the stamp or die F, Figs.
'-1, 2, and 3, is securely fastened. This die fits `closely into the corresponding die or countersink, G, Figs. 1, 2, and 4, and the edges of both are made of steel or other hard metal, so
formed and adjusted that the .closing o f the l dies will cut the paper or other material used for the manufacture of the envelope or box into the exact form required .for tli at purpose.
v The die F, Figsfl, 12g-and 3, is constructed l The operation of the machine is as follows In turning the balance-'wheel I, Figs l andll2-,f
for which a pulley or drum may be sulostitilted, motion is communicated through the cogwheels K and AL and the cranks M M, Figs. 1 and 2, tojthe shafts E E, by which the sashC C is moved upl and down, thus opening and closing the dies F and G, by which oper.-
ation the paper or other material used is out into suitable shape and printed ready for folding. The bottom of. the' die'or countersink 1G is made of some elastic substance, which will yield tothe pressure olj' lines or knives on the die F, so that the paper or other material used may be perfectly indented or. partially severed.4 l
vWhat I claim as'new in my' machine, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The countersinkG, Fig. 4., with -elastic bed and the die F, Fig. 3', with projecting blades I MARTIAL DIMOCK.
