PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. OOBBIN, OF NEW RICHMOND, OHIO.
IMPROVED SUGAR-EVAPORATOR.
Specification forming part of Lctters Patent No. 44,401, dated September 27, 1864.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES S. CoRBIN, of New Bichmond, county of Olermont, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Evaporators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
. exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in 'which Figure 1 represents the evaporator cut away on its side, showing the movable fire-box B in place for use. Fig. 2 represents a side view of movable fire-box and damper. Fig. 3 represents the bottom of evaporator with bars across to receive the fire-box B. Fig. 4 represents a top View of the fire-box.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
This invention relates to a new and improved mode of supplying fire-boxes to evaporators by constructing a framework, as shown in Figs. 1 and 8, with bars across from side to side; allows of replacing anew fire box at any time, as they are made separate and independent of each other, thereby making a very great B is a movable fire-box, made of iron, with a grate in the bottom of the front end. This box is to be placed inside of box A, and supported with bars underneath the bottom of box B, and lined with brick or any desirable fixture. The advantage of this arrangement is that it can be taken out at any time and repaired and save the skeleton frame A. Across the top of the rear end of fire-box B is covered, and a flue is placed. The balance of the top is left open to admit of an evaporator-pan resting on the top edges of fire-box B.
G is an iron damper fastened to upright rods H, raised up and down by means of lever I, attached to a hanger, J, from the bottom of fire-box B, and regulated by raising and lowering by means of a bar, with holes punched to hang to stationary hook L, from the rear end of frame A. By this means the flue will always be clear and a large or small space to regulate the fire.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as my improvement, and desire to se cure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the firebox furnace and damper, as described.
2. A horizontal damper operated by a lever attached to an upright, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
JAMES S. CORBIN.
