News FETEIIS cm. wore-Una, WASHING NITED STATES CHARLES R. PRICE, OF CHEROKEE, IOWA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 441,072, dated. November 18, 1890.
Application filed March 13, 1890. Serial No. 343,714. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. PRICE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cherokee, in the county of Cherokee and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fences, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention pertains to an improvement in tilting fences; and it consists not only in the peculiar construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts, substantially as hereinafter more fully described, but also in its adaptability to the purpose of a feed-rack, whereby on many occasions it may be rendered highly useful in feeding animals or stock.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of asection of my fence, the ground being broken away to show the sunken portion of the fence-posts. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of my fence-posts in detail, and Fig. 3 is a detail View thereof.
In constructing my fence the post A is provided with flukes B, arrow-pointed at B, and kept at right angles at B whereby they are secured to two sides of the post, as shown, (nailed or bolted,) and are anchored more securely in the ground. Posts A, as plainly shown in the drawings, are inserted'in the ground to within a short distance of their entire length, the parts thereof projecting above the same being slightly curved to form postheads a, in which are provided a series of bolt-apertures Z), and a central bolt-aperture for the reception of a pivotal bolt b inserted therein and through a corresponding orifice in the upper section, thus pivotally securing the two sections A and C together. The upper section C of the fence-post consists of the bar B and horizontal wires d, secured thereto by means of fasteners or hangers f f, passing through the bar B and having their ends twisted about the fence-wires d d. The guardboard B is secured to the top of the fencepost by keys 6 and the upper fence-wire (1,
said board having recesses therein, throughwhich the post or section C projects, which has an orifice through which is projected the key or pin 6, the guard-board being supported by means of the upper fence-wire or by means of a key bearing against its under side.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a fence, the posts composed of two pivoted sections, the lower section of which has a series of orifices in its upper end to provide for the oblique adjustment of the upper section, and the arrow-pointed flukes secured to two sides thereof, the upper section being inserted through a recess in a guard-board which has its lower face resting on the upper wire strand of the fence and its upper face bearing against a key or pin inserted in a horizontal orifice inthe post, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES R. PRICE.
