(No Model.)
B. L. MQGREADY.
MARKING PEN.
No. 437,312. Pzmzented; Sept. 30, 1890.
@JW zd g UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD L. MCCREADY, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
MARKING-PEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 437,312, dated September 30, 1890.
Application filed February 15, 1890. Serial No. 340,600. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD L. MOC EA'DY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Marking-Pen; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved n1ark ing or shading pen; and it consists in a tube having aflattened point, slightly beveled, and the said tube adapted to contain a quantity of ink and to flow through an orifice formed in the fiat point, as will be fully set forth hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved pen or marker,
tach thereto a tapering circular pointb, which by suitable means I flatten,as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. This point bis slightly beveled at 0 (see Fig. 4) in order to enable the operator to hold the marker in an inclined position, and is not entirely closed, but a fine slot or opening d extends the entire Width of the point.
In operation the point I) is unscrewed from the tube a and the same filled with ink. The point is now replaced and the marker ready for use. By holding the implement in an inclined position, so that the bevel surface will be in contact with the article to be marked or written on, and using the same as an ordinary stub pen, letters or writing will be' formed with heavy shade-lines at the top and bottom.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described marking or writing pen, consisting of the tube a, closed at one end and provided with a fiat tapering point b, having an opening (1 the entire width of the said point, and the bevel surface 0, formed on the said point, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claini the foregoing I hereunto affix my signature this 10th day of January, A. D. 1890.
RICHARD L. MCOREADY. [L. 8.]
In presence of- M. E. HARRISON, J. A. HERRON.
