Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Gratos.
C. B. GUY, OF LYBRAND, IOVA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FQPLCE-PUMPS.
Speeiiication forming part of Letters Patent No. LLEJSSQ, dated August 2, 1564.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, C. B. GUY, of Lybrand, l
in the county of Allamaliee and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Pump; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, rt ference being had t0 the accompanying drawings, niaking a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side sectional view of my invention, taken in the line Fig. 2, Fig. 2, a plan or top view ot' the same.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
This invention is more especially designed for domestic purposes, and has for its object the elevating` ot' water i'rom springs, wells, 85e., and forcing it to any convenient distance or height by a very moderate expenditure ot' pJwer and comparative inexpensive means.
The invention consists in the employmentl or use of a chamber provided with a piston and valve, and having a force or eduction pipe communicating with it provided with a checky valve, the above parts being used in connection with a loaded lever applied to the pistonrod and a windlass connected with said lever, all being arranged as hereinafter set forth.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, l will proceed to describe it.
A represents a chamber, which may be of quadrilateral, cylindrical, or other forni, provided with a piston, B, and having a valve, a, in its bottom opening upward. C is a force or eduction pipe, which communicates with the lower part ot' A, and is provided with a check-valve, b, to prevent the water forced into C from passing back again into A. These parts constitute the ordinaryT force pump, and i 1 'therefore do not require a minute description. The piston B has its rod D attached to it by Q ajoint, e, and the upper end of said rod is connected by ajoint, d, with a lever, E, the i'ulcrum c of which is at the upper end ot' an upright, F. To one end ot the lever E there is attached a cord, H, which passes undery neath guide pulleys ff, and is connected to a windlass, I. The i'orce or eduction pipe C may l be carried to any convenient distance or height, where it is designed to have the water conveyed and discharged, and the windlass I may be near the discharge-orifice of said pipe (J. The pump is subinerged-at least, its lower end-in a well, spring, or reservoir, from which the water is to be drawn, and the weight G has a tendency to draw up the piston B and to cause the water to enter. A through the valve a. r lhe piston, when forced down in A by turning the windlass I, forces the water from A through the pipe- C, and when the windlass is released theweight Gr again raises i the piston B and causes water from the well, t spring, or reservoir to enter A, from which it is again forced out through C when the piston is depressed. lhns by this simple and inex- 1 pensive arrangement water may be elevated i and foi-eed to any desired distance or height. Having thus described my invention, what I f claim as new, and desire to secure. by Letters Patent, isl rlhe pump, in combination with the force or y eduction pipe, loaded lever, and windlass, all arranged to operate in the manner substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
' C. B. (i UY.
