IMPROVEMENT IN HUSKlNG-PIN.
Specification lbrming part of Letters Patent No. E3,00 l, dated June 7, 1864.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK BROWN, of Russel, in the county of Geauga and State of Ohio, hitW invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Construction of Husking lins; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, making a part ol this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a piece of metal cut out the proper shape -to form the entire pin. Fig. 2 shows the same piece bent as it is progressively in forming the pin, which is represented completed in Fig. 3.
Like letters refer to like parts.
The nature of my invention relates to formin g a husking-pin of a piece of metal cut out in a peculiar shape, otwhich a pin can be made the most desirable shape, and that will he Very durable with little expense; and from the manner and simplicity of its construction it can be manufactured very rapidly with little waste of material.
In Fig. I, A represents the shape of the piece of metal that is to form the body of the pin, having a notch, a, on one side, and a projection, b, on the opposite side. Along the side of this projection is cut a strip, 13, as represented, with acatch, (7, .on the end.
The piece A is bent or turned ronud together. as shown in Fig. 2, and the strip 13 is curved backward and turned down, so as to come up close to the projection b, forming the ring of the pin. The bent piece A is then curved together till the edges meet, forming a round conical-shaped tubeas seen in Fig. 3, having all the strength of being solid with much less expense and possessing the advantage of being so much lighter. As the edges a and a come together, the slot a fits round the catch (1, holding that end of the strip forming tlc ring securely in place, and the projection 11, from Where the strip B is bent back, laps over onto the other edge, forming in all a conr plete and finished. pin in every Way superior to any in ordinary use.
Cutting out the metallic pieces and forming them progressively into pins, as herein described, may be done by machinery or any other suitable means.
What I claim as my improvement, and dc sire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described huskin gpin when constructed substantially as set forth.
FRANK BROWN.
