SKILLET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,169, dated J une 3, 1890.

Application filed October 23, 1889.

To all whom it may concern,.- l

Be it known that I, MINNIE T. DURGY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sherman, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skillets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of devices designed to be attached to skillets to prevent the cooking fats, dac., from bespattering the stove or neighboring objects.

Itis the aim of my invention to afford by my improvement all the advantages of a closed cover, and to do away with the necessity of removing the latter whenever it becomes necessary to inspect or manipulate that which is in the skillet.

Another, and in fact the chief, obj ect of my invention is to provide for the ready insertion and manipulation of culinary tools within the skillet.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a sectional elevation of my improve-- Inent applied within an ordinary skillet Fig. 2, a detail perspective of my improvement; Fig. 3, a View similar to Figli, but showingin addition hooks extending from my improvement over the edge of the skillet; and Fig. 4, a detail elevation of my improvement provided with such hooks.

Similar letters denote like parts in the several figures of the drawings.

A is the skillet, of ordinary construction.

B is what I term my improved skillet-extension, which is open at the top and bottom. The bottom C of this extension is shaped to such an angle that it will closely Serial No. 327,916. (No model.)

fit the inner wall of the skillet, while the height of the extension above the skillet is such that the particles of grease, dac., will not be likely to spatter outside of said extension.

The nose of my extension is flared, as seen at D, so as to afford an easy incline, whereby the culinary tools Inay be readily handled when inserted within the skillet. Lips may be cut from the stock of the bottom C and bent into the form of hooks E, which are adapted to fit snugly over the edge of the skillet in order to still further secure the extension within the skillet.

I do not wish to be understood as basing any novelty on a skillet-extension open at the top and bottom, for this I know to be old; but the adaptation of the bottom of the eX- tension to fit closely within the skillet and the provision of a flared nose are features which I believe to be new and patentable.

The extension maybe turned around within the skillet to any desired posit-ion, and the iiared nose also aifordsa handle whereby said extension may be readily applied within or removed from the skillet.

Having thus fully described Iny invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A skillet-extension open at the top and bottom and having a flared nose, substantially as shown and described.

2. A skilletextension having its bottom open and shaped to snugly fit within the skillet, and provided with an open top having a flared nose, substantially as set forth.
