A. O.V DUGAN 81; H. W. SGHOFF. BARBERS APPLIANGE.
ff MIMI IINTTED STATES PATENT FFIC.
ANDREV C.V DUGAN AND HENRY V. SCI-IOFF, OF LOWDEN, IOWA.
BARBERS APPLIANCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 428,203, dated May 20, 1890.
Application filed August 2, 1889. Serial No. 319,571. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that we, ANDREW C. DUGAN and HENRY W. SoHoFF, citizens of the United States, residing at Lowden, in the county of Cedar and State of Iowa, have inventedv a new and useful Barbers Appliance, of which the following' is a Specification. v
This invention has relation to a toilet-rest for barbers; and among the objects in view are to provide a suitable toilet-rest adapted to be secured to the ceiling and depend within easy reach of the barber, and to be so constructed as to be adjustable for raising and lowering the shelf of the rest, and to be rotated or swung into and out of position, and for the support of such articles as the razors, scissors, combs and brushes, shaving-mug, paper, &c.
lVith these general objects in view the invention consists in a base adapted to be secured to the ceiling and supporting a de pending standard, and mounting in said standard an adjustable toilet table or shelf, which is preferably provided with a convenient supply of paper.
The invention consists in certain other features of construction hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out iu the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of a toilet-rest constructed in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section. Fig. 3 is a detail of the paper-roll.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures of the drawings.
1 represents a preferably cast-metal base, provided near its outer edge with screw-holes 2, through which are inserted screws 3, which terminate in the ceiling 4. Through the ccnlter of the base there is formed an opening 2, in which is secured in any ordinary manner the upper end of a stud 5, which depends from the base and terminates at its lower end in an enlarged head 5, a bearing being formed above the head, and mounted upon the stud and adapted to rotate or swing thereon is a horizontal arm 6, the opening 7 of which in one end embraces the stud. A
similar opening 8 is formed in the opposite end of the arm, which receives the upper end 9 of a depending standard 10, said standard being swiveled in said arm. The standard is hollow for a portion of its length at its lower end, and is provided with a set-screw 11,
adapted to bear upon a stud 12, which is rev ceived by the hollow standard, and which projects upwardly from the rear end of a preferably inclined table or shelf 14. By means of this set-screw it is apparent that the table or shelf 14 may be raised and lowered and maintained at the desired elevation and most convenient to the operator.
From each side of the inclined shelf and near its rear end vvthere rises a standard 15, in the upper ends of which are formed bearings 16, in this instance open, for the recep tion of a square-ended paper-roll shaft 17, upon which is mounted for rotation a paper reel or roll 1S, containing a web of paper 19. It is apparent that the paper-roll, its shaft, and support may be omitted, if desired, and sheets of paper employed; but we prefer the continuous web, which may be perforated, dividing the same into sheets, for the reason that it is more convenient, and a sufficient quantity of the saine may be used prior to severing or detaching the sheets, thus effecting a saving in the amount of paper used, and also in insuring the paper remaining in position.
Having described our invention, what we claim isy 1. In a device of 4the class described, a standard provided at its lower end with a table having a paper-roll mounted thereon, substantially as specified.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination, with an inverted base adapted to be secured t`o the ceiling, and provided with a depending lug terminating in an enlarged bearing-boss, a horizontal arm loosely mounted on the lug and bearing on the boss, and a standard depending from and swiveled in the arm, and a table adj ustably connected with the arm, substantiallyas specified.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination, with a table, of opposite standards having bearings, a shaft mounted in the bearings, a reel mounted onthe shaft and our own we have hereto afxed our signatures carrying a web of paper, substantially as in presence of two Witnesses.
specified. o
4. In a device of the Class described, a ta- 5 ble 14, carrying a paper-roll and suspended from the ceiling by a swiveied standard, Vitnesses:
which is made adjustable, :is set forth. ISAIAH VILLIAMS,
In testimony that We claim the foregoing as l J. P. FERGUSON.
