SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,016, dated May 13, 1890.
Application filed October 10,l 1889. Serial No. 326,633. (No model.)

In 65 i 5 in g system, which are liable to freeze, whereby the circulation of the water it is necessary, as the heat from the steam in said spur prevents there is but one heater located on the side of the freezing and bursting of the exposed parts the car, to connect with the coils on the other of the system, and, further, in the peculiar arside of the car, which is usually done by rangement and combination of such piping means of the cross-overs D, which for con 7o 2o with a covering common to both of such pipes, venience are run beneath the car-floor. These all as more fully hereinafter described. Crossovers are the lowest point of the system,
In the drawings which accompany this and it often happens that in extremely cold specilication, Figure l is a perspective view of weather the circulation of the water becolnes the piping of a hot-water heating apparatus so sluggish as to cause them to freeze up. The application of my train-pipe with the spurs, as described, will answer as well in direct steam-heating for hot-water heating,` apparatus where the pipes are liable to freeze in exposed places.
XVhat I claim as my invention is 1. In a ear-heating apparatus, a train-pipe having spurs located in proximity to exposed portions of the heating system, substantially as described.
2. In a ear-heating apparatus, atrain-pipe, a system of heating-pipes within the ear, having portions thereof outside adjacent to the train-pipe, of spurs extending,` from said trainpipe in close proximity to suoli exposed por tions, substantially as described.

et. The combination of the circulating tem, a portion of which is exposed with the main steam-pipe and a portion of which is in proximity to the exposed portion ot' the eir- @plating` system to impart heat to the same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I al'tix my signature, in presence ot' two witnesses, this 23d day of September, 1889.
