Be it known that we, J AMES R. FERGUSON and JOHN FERGUSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Chester, in the county of Middlesex and St-ate of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom-Holders; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in broom-holders of that class formed of a single piece of wire and bent into the desired shape to hold the broom- `handle and to form suitable means for sec-uring the holder to its support.

The object of the present invention is to provide a holder of this class which will readily adapt itself to handles of different sizes, yet hold them iirmly, and which will yield with little pressure or exertion to allow of the insertion or withdrawal of the broom.

The novelty resides in the peculiarities of construction, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a broomholder embodying our invention attached to a wall. Fig. 2 is a top plan of the same, and Fig. 3 is a side View of the same.

Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the holder, made of a single piece of wire whose central portion is bent to form the elongated loops a, tapered or narrowed from the loop thereof and extending in opposite directions, as shown in Fig. l, said elongated loops designed to bear against the wall or other support to which the holder is attached and forming the base thereof. The loop portion of these elongated loops forms a sort of eyes for the screws or other fastening means which secure the holder to its support. The two ends of the wire are then extended toward the central dividingline between the two loops and there `formed into a coil b at right angles to the elongated loops, and then extended at right angles to the said elongated loops and to one side of the coil, thence. inward, as at c, and then outward, as at d, then bent upon itself to form the loop e, thenvinward toward each other, and then outward and down parallel with the arm f, the free end of each end of the wire being in proximity to the coil formed upon the arm upon one side of the elongated loops. The portion g, connecting the two elongated loops, extends diagonally from one loop to the other, thus adding strength to the base of the holder.

A holder thus constructed will be found very efficient in use, readily laccommodating itself to different sizes of handles. The coils, in connection with the free ends of the lwire ,composing the holder, give great elasticity combined with strength and durability.

Vhat we claim as new is- The broom-holder described, composed of a single piece of Wire bent at its center to form the elongated loops, arranged substantially parallel across the base of the holder, and connected by the diagonal portion, the coils one upon each side of said diagonal portion near the center thereof, and the spring grasping-arms rising from said coils, and having one bar of each of said arms formed of the free end of the wire, said free cnds of the wire being arranged upon opposite sides of opposite arms, substantially as shown and specified.
