A I. SOHEUER.
POCKET BOOK.
No. 417,886. Patented Dec. 24, 1889.
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC SCHEUER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POCKET-BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,886, dated December 24, 1889. Application filed August 17, 1889. Serial No. 321,124. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC SGHEUER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Pocket-Books and other Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide certain new and useful improvements in pocketbooks and other similar articles, in which an especial and separate compartment or bag is provided for the storage of specie, which is prevented from falling out when the jaws of the bag or compartment are closed.
The invention consists of jaws supporting a bag and a second bag having one or more compartments and located within the said first-named bag and extending to the tops of the j aws.
The invention also consists in certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims,
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pocketbook provided with the improvement and held in a closed position. Fig. 2 is a like view of the same in an open position, and Fig. 3 is a sectional end view of the same with the specie-bag closed.
As illustrated in the drawings, the improvement is applied to an ordinary pocket-book A, having a central bag or compartment B, on which are held the jaws G and D, connected with each other by hinge-joints E in the usual manner. On the top of the jaw G or D is held a suitable lock F, adapted to lock the jaws in place,,so as to hold the compartment or bag B closed.
In the compartment or bagB is held a bag G, the bottom of which extends to within a short distance of the bottom of the bag 13, while its top extends to within a short distance of the inside of the top parts of the jaws C and D, as is plainly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The upper ends of the sides of the bag G are fastened to the top parts of the jaws O and D or the sides of the bag or compartment B.
The bag G. may be provided with one or more compartments I-l, three being shown in the drawings formed by partitions I, secured to folds J in the ends of the bag G. The partitions I also extend to within a short distance of the inside of the top parts of the jaws O and D, as is plainly shown in Fig. 3. The hinge-joints E of the jaws C and l) are located above the lower end of the bag G, preferably about midway of the height of the said bag.
The specie or other article, when placed in any one of the compartments of the bag G, is safely held in place therein when the jaws O and D are closed and locked in place by the look F. The specie is prevented from falling out of the pocket, as the top of the pocket that is, its open end-extends close under the tops of the jaws C and D, so that the specie cannot pass out of the bag and be lost between the ends of the jaws G and D, as is so frequently the case in pocketbooks in which the specie is placed in the bag B. 1
It is understood that when the jaws C and D are closed and looked in place the other parts of the pocket-book A can be used in the ordinary manner. I
I am aware that a pocket-book has had its middle compartment or bag provided with jaws, and I do not claim the same; but said compartment did not contain a separate inner bag having its ends provided with folds, to close the spaces between the ends of the jaws above the pivots.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A pocket-book provided with a bag having pivoted jaws and a separate and independent bag suspended from its upper longitudinal edges within the first-named bag and having closed ends provided with folds extending above the joints or pivots of said jaws and closing the end spaces between said jaws, substantially as set forth.
2. A pocket-book having a central bag or the jaws above their pivots, substantially as compm'tlneEnt B,d provideg bWithG jaws OdDd, set forth. 7 7 pivoted at an a seeon ag suspen e at its upper longitudinal edges from the said ISAAC SOHEUER' 5 jaws Within the first-named bag, and having Witnesses:
folding ends J, extending to its upper edge H. CHARLES EULER, and closing the space between the ends of F. KUHN.
