Description

(No Model.)
A. T. BLATCHFORD. EARTHEN TILE WEATHER BOARDING.
I Patented Nov. 19, 1889.v
WizinMAeA UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED T. BLATOHFORD, OF BEAVER, PENNSYLVANIA.
EARTH EN-TILE WEATHER-BOARDING.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent N 0. 415,605, dated November 19, 1889.
Application filed December 18, 1888. Serial No. 294,015. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALFRED T. BLATOHFORD, of Beaver, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Earthen-Tile \Veather-Boarding of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to tiles for weather-boarding and other analogous purposes, and has for its object to provide a tile which shall be light and easily attached and comparatively inexpensive.
This invention therefore consists in the provision of an earthen weather-board tile, more fully described hereinafter, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, Figure l is a rear elevation, Fig. 2 an end view, Fig. 3 a sectional view on line N O of Fig. 1, Fig. 4 a sectional view 011 line L M, Fig. 5 a front elevation, and Fig. 6 a perspective, of the tile.
A designates the body of the tile, having recesses or chambers A A formed by the raised portions 0 C C C, which extend around the outer edge of the tile and across its center.
B B designate extensions or flanges across the ends of the tiles, said flanges being designed and adapted to impinge against the studs of the building when the tiles are in position.
Ports or holes H in the rims O are provided, whereby the tile may be fastened to the build gether and forming a close joint, cement bein g used, if deemed advisable, to more securely close the joints between the tiles, and thus render them air and water tight.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. A tile provided with ridges O G and flanges B B, substantially as described.
2. A tile provided with ridges C C, forming depressions or air-spaces A A on its interior side, and ports H H in said ridges, whereby the tile may be secured in position by a nail or other suitable fastening device passing through said ports, substantially as described.
