BOTTLE-PROTECTOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,417, dated November 5, 1889.

Be it known that 1, AUGUST ll. KELTOW, of Telluride, in the county of San Miguel and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Bottle-Protector, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of this invention is to provide for the packing of bottles without the use of straw or other like matter; and to the end named the invention consists of a protector made up of top and bottom disks or plates, central rings, and connecting-strips, the whole being adapted to receive a bottle, all as will be hereinafter explained, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bottle representing the same as it appears when provided with my improved protector. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lower portion of the protector, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of one of the rings which pass about the bottle-body.

In constructing the protector forming the subject-matter of this applicatioml provide an upper disk or plate 10, of a diameter slightly greater than that of the bottle-head, and a disk orplate 11, of a diameter greater than that of the bottle-body. To the disks or plates 10 and 11, I connect strips 12, which pass over the disk 10 and are secured to the upper face of the disk 11. The strips 12 carry two or more rings 13 and a small ring 1 L Although not positively essential, I prefer that the outer faces of the rings 13 and let should be convex, as is shown in Fig. One end of each of the strips 12 is connected to the lower ring 13, the other ends being arranged so that when the bottle is in place within the protector they may be tucked under said ring, as shown in Fig. 1.

The protector above described is formed of india-rubber or other-suitable material, and may be used over and over again, as will be readily understood.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. A bottle-protector comprising upper and lower rings and strips secured to said rings and crossed at the top and bottom of the protector, the lower ends of the strips beyond their point of crossing being adapted to be tucked under the lower ring to secure the protector in place, substantially as set forth.

2. In a bottle-protector, the combination, with a disk 10, adapted to rest on a bottlehead, and a disk 11, arranged to fit against the bottom of bottle'strips 12, connected to the disks, one end of each strip being free, and rings carried by the strips, substantially as described.
